The Umboni Project continues!

Last month, YOU helped us support 5 strong mothers in Malawi.
We delivered groceries, diapers, and small grants to help them start businesses—and they’re already taking steps toward stability.

Now it’s May, and 5 more mothers are waiting.

These women have survived things I can’t even imagine—abandonment, the death of their husbands, raising children with disabilities, and more.

With just $600, we can support all 5:

✅ Provide food + essential supplies
✅ Help them start small, manageable businesses
✅ Follow up with real care and dignity

This is what Umboni is all about.

Last week in Likuni, five single moms came together to share their stories. Real women. Real pain. Real strength.

One was abandoned after giving birth to twins. Her husband said, “There’s no history of twins in my family—you must’ve cheated.”

Another hasn’t had sugar in her tea in years—because she couldn’t afford it.

Another woman lost her husband in South Africa and never even got to bury him.

These women are doing whatever they can—washing clothes, doing small jobs, anything to feed their children.

We gave them food and essentials, but more than anything, we gave them a moment to be seen. Heard. Respected.

We asked:
“What kind of future do YOU want?”

And now, we’re walking with them as they begin to dream again.

This is just the beginning. Next month, we meet five more.

As the founder of the Umboni Project, an organization dedicated to supporting single mothers in Malawi, I am writing this post with a heavy heart. It is with a mix of concern, love, and determination that I share the stories and struggles of these remarkable women, hoping to ignite a flame of empathy and support within each of you.

In the beautiful country of Malawi, single mothers face countless obstacles on a daily basis - obstacles that no one should have to face alone. These resilient women battle against the harsh realities of poverty, limited access to education and healthcare, societal stigmatization, and the weight of providing for their children without a partner by their side. Their strength and unwavering love for their families inspire us deeply.

Today, our mission is urgent. The ongoing cholera outbreak has plunged these single mothers and their children into an even deeper crisis. The lack of clean water, proper sanitation, and healthcare services puts innocent lives at risk each passing day. It is in their moments of desperation that we must come together and offer our unwavering support.

But we cannot accomplish this alone. We need you – compassionate individuals, fierce advocates, and kind-hearted donors – to join us on this journey and make a difference in the lives of these incredible women. Here's what you can do:

🌺 Donate: Your financial contributions can bring critical resources and relief to these struggling single mothers. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Umboni Project last year. We are starting a new GOFUNDME page to raise more money and awareness for single mothers in Malawi. All donations will go directly to these women and their families. Every dollar gives them access to food, clothing, and other essential items. It is more important to help them now than ever as Malawians are experiencing shortages in the food supply chain of the country's staple food, maize.
