Exciting news for East Oakland students and families! 🦷✨
We gathered at the Frick Family Wellness Center at Frick United Academy of Language alongside Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, Alameda Health System (AHS), Alameda County Health, and Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to celebrate the official opening of our new school-based dental clinic with AHS.
This powerful partnership brings free, high-quality dental care directly to where kids spend their days—removing transportation barriers, work-schedule conflicts, and fear for local families.
As EBAC CEO Josh Leonard put it, "When care happens in a setting families already trust, everything changes.”
Why this matters now:
🪥 According to county assessments, more than 1 in 4 Alameda County students face untreated tooth decay, a major contributor to missed school days and emergency room visits.
💙 Dental care is an entry point to whole-person health: visiting the clinic seamlessly connects students and caregivers to EBAC’s broader mental health counseling, youth development, and family support services.
Special thanks to Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, AHS CEO James Jackson, OUSD Superintendent Dr. Denise Saddler, Drs. Charmaine Ng and Sean Silverio, Alameda County Health’s Lisa Erickson, and our Clinic Coordinator Markita Mitchell for leading this work to ensure health and academic success go hand-in-hand.
