A donation to Operation Dignity turns your compassion into ACTION.
We provide a continuum of care from Street Outreach and Emergency Shelter, through Transitional Housing and finally Permanent Supportive Housing. Getting people off the streets is just the beginning and we provide support every step of the way. Please consider a donation today. https://operationdignity.org/how-you-can-help/donate/

Hi Folks! We wanted to spread the word about a HUGE Resource Fair that's being held for homeless individuals and families next week. It will be Wednesday (7/16) from 10am to 4pm at the Oakland Coliseum. There are over 1,000 groups participating who will be offering everything from free haircuts and clothing to medical and dental services, a "Kidz Korner", veterinary care for pets -and -of course- housing and employment assistance.

We are beyond grateful for the incredible support we've received from two generous organizations!

We recently received two grants that will help us continue our mission to serve our community:

The first is from the Alameda Welfare Council (pictured here with an amazing group of women), which will provide vital support to Alameda residents in need. Their dedication to uplifting our neighbors is truly inspiring.

The second grant is from Rodger Sheppa of Grifols Healthcare, whose generous donation will fund our Street Outreach programs in Emeryville and Oakland. This support will make a huge difference in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness.

We are incredibly thankful for these partnerships and for the ongoing support of our work at Operation Dignity. Together, we’re making real change and empowering individuals in our community!

In order to celebrate Military Appreciation Month… We will profile one of our exceptional veterans per week throughout May.
A college graduate at 64 says, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”

Renee started with Operation Dignity six and a half years ago, shortly before beginning her college classes and has continued to work while pursuing her education. She says that Operation Dignity has been a supportive environment for her because her fellow staff are so great. “It’s important to have a core team who also have tenacity… Everyone here is unique, but together we make a magic puzzle.”

Kyla Singal, Operation Dignity’s Director of Human Resources says, “Renee is a beacon of hope, inspiration and joy. She exemplifies black excellence and the will to overcome obstacles in order to succeed.”

Congratulations, Renee! We’re so happy you’re a part of the Operation Dignity family and we wish you much success!

A big Thank You to the Alameda Elks Lodge (No. 1015) for the beautiful new pergola at Dignity Commons, and to the Home Depot Emeryville store ( #67) for the grills, playset and picnic tables!

Operation Dignity staff and residents celebrated their great new outdoor space with a cookout on May 10th and many other events are being planned.

May is Military Appreciation Month, a special time designated to honor and recognize the contributions, sacrifices, and service of members of the armed forces, both past and present. During this month, we pause on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all. Additionally, May marks several other military anniversaries and events, including Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces Day. It’s a time to publicly show appreciation for troops and their families, and it fosters awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by the military community. Thank you for your service!

There's a great article in this week's Oakland Post about the annual Point-In-Time homeless count where workers (including a team from Operation Dignity) are assigned sections of the city to physically count unhoused individuals in the early hours of the morning. This year's count took place on January 25th and an Oakland Post reporter accompanied the Operation Dignity Team and interviewed Ivan Magana and Yolanda Kirkpatrick. Thank You to the Bay Area Chapter of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Professionals) for stopping by our offices yesterday to donate several big bags of crew socks! With the wet weather we've been having, unhoused individuals are desperate for warm, dry clothing. Our Street Outreach Team has already begun distributing the socks to individuals in Emeryville and Oakland.
