Today we raise our mugs to the amazing staff at Reflection House!

We just want to take a minute to brag on our team, because they deserve it! Every day they show up with big hearts, lots of patience, and a whole lot of kindness. They cheer on the wins, stick around through the tough days, and do a hundred little things that often go unnoticed. They make Reflection House feel like a place where everyone belongs.

So for National Coffee Day, we treated our crew to coffee and brunch! It was so nice to slow down, grab a good cup of coffee, and just enjoy being together. Lots of laughs, good food, and good coffee.

To our staff: thank you for all you do. We appreciate you more than you know, and we're so lucky to have you!

And a huge thank you to Blackhawk Coffee Co. for having us and taking such good care of our team! If you haven't been yet, go check them out. You won't be disappointed!

In Garrett County today, a woman is rebuilding her confidence, her voice, her sense that she can do this. She didn't have to leave her hometown or go far away. She's not wondering if anyone understands what recovery actually takes. She knows the staff at Reflection House understand, because they have been there too, and she found it all right here, in Garrett County at Reflection House.

That's not something that happens by accident. It takes people willing to hold the ladder steady while someone else finds their footing. To stand there, hands ready, for as long as it takes. It takes a whole community deciding that someone else's climb is worth their hands, their hours, their heart. That it is worth them climbing higher and achieving their highest potential.

This year, we're calling our Reflection House impact report, A Year of Steady Ground. And honestly? It's not really ours. It's yours. You held the ladder. You gave, you volunteered, you opened your homes and your hearts, and your community events to residents. This report is just us handing back the story of what that climb became.

So here it is, with all the care and gratitude we know how to put into words. It looked like basement workshops, where volunteers sat beside residents at sewing machines, one hand steadying the fabric while the other guided a pattern. Recovery is built the same way anything sturdy gets built: one stitch and one steady hand at a time.

It looked like a needs list, quietly filled by neighbors who never met the woman they were helping. Laundry soap, freezer bags, the small stuff that makes a house feel like a home because around here in our strong mountain community, we don't just wait to be asked to help someone up; we jump in, help out, and do it.

It looked like a woman getting behind the wheel of her own car again, driving herself to see her kids. Somebody held the ladder long enough for her to climb it herself, and now she's the one holding the wheel, the keys, and her own life.

It looked like the Women's Civic Club opening their arms to Reflection House residents who volunteered, standing shoulder to shoulder at community events that give right back to the place we all call home.

It looked like residents standing behind a serving line with the Christian Women's Fellowship, dishing out meals to neighbors. Women who once needed a hand now reaching one out to somebody else.

And it looked like an 81-year-old woman with limited vision getting her basement finally cleared and organized. Not by a stranger, but by women who knew what it felt like to be helped, and wanted to pass that same hand forward.

That's the thing about steady ground. Once you find it, you start reaching back for the next person climbing up behind you.

This is the story behind our FY2026 Community Impact Report — and it's a story we couldn't tell without this community holding on with us.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, people around the world are remembering the loved ones lost to substance use, alcohol use, overdose, and other drug-related deaths.

Reflection House is deeply honored to host Garrett County’s International Overdose Awareness Day event alongside the many local organizations, recovery programs, community partners, and volunteers who have come together to make this meaningful evening possible.

As part of tonight’s event, we are sharing this memorial tribute featuring 78 deeply loved people from our community and beyond. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who trusted us with their loved one’s photograph and memory. We hold that trust with great care, and it is an honor to help share that love and remember their lives.

These 78 loved ones represent one small part of a much larger story of love, loss, and remembrance. This video honors those pictured and named, those whose photographs were not included, and all those being remembered today around the world.

Every person mattered. Every person was loved. Every loss has left an absence in the lives of family members, friends, and communities.

We warmly invite everyone in our community to join us this evening as we remember those we have lost, celebrate recovery, share hope, and remind those who are still struggling that they are not alone.

Tomorrow is International Overdose Awareness Day

When someone dies from an overdose or drug/alcohol related death, their story does not end with their passing. Their absence continues to be felt in the lives of the people who loved them, in the milestones they miss, the memories carried forward, and the countless ways their families and communities are forever changed.

We are deeply grateful to Concerted Care Group of Cumberland for sharing this powerful video with us for Garrett County’s International Overdose Awareness Day. A special thank-you to Margaret Sines, Director, and Shannon Thomas, Clinical Manager, for helping bring these voices and stories together and for the compassionate work they and their team do every day in our neighboring community.

Concerted Care Group provides support for individuals living with substance use and mental health challenges, including medication-assisted treatment, individual and group counseling, intensive outpatient treatment, peer recovery support, and psychiatric rehabilitation services. If you or someone you love needs support, please reach out to their Cumberland team at 240-410-0885. Help is available, and no one should have to take the first step alone.

The caring team from Concerterd Care Group of Cumberland will be a resource vendor at the 2026 Garrett County International Overdose Awareness Day event. They would love for you to stop by and talk with them.
Thank you to each person in this video who spoke so openly about their loved one and what life has looked like since their loss. It takes tremendous courage to share something so deeply personal.

As a community, we remember those we have lost, surround those who continue to grieve, and work together so that fewer families experience this heartbreak.

This is what community looks like: planting together, growing together, and sharing the harvest.

The kindness planted in the Reflection House garden is now growing into an abundance that we can share with our whole community.

Fresh vegetables are available for free at Reflection House. Everyone is welcome to stop by, take a bag, and choose some vegetables to enjoy. No questions asked, and no money is needed. This is simply neighbors sharing with neighbors.

We are also so grateful to the community members who have already taken vegetables and even brought produce from their own gardens to exchange. Watching this grow from a garden supported by our community into a place where neighbors share with one another has been truly special.

If you have extra vegetables you would like to share, you are welcome to bring them to us. If you would like to support Reflection House, donations are also gratefully accepted at the door, but no donation is needed to take vegetables.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the Kitzmiller Lions Club at the fair this Saturday. Reflection House board members, staff, and residents will be helping prepare and serve fair food throughout the day!
