It truly takes a village (and maybe a few bags of treats and some cuddles) to help vulnerable baby animals get the care they deserve!

Rainbow the sweet Doberman puppy started her off her journey at OAS in foster care, where she got all the love, snuggles, and support she needed while waiting for her next chapter.

She was then transferred to an out-of-state partner who could help get her medical issues fully looked after.

Rainbow’s story is a reminder that your support helps us say “yes” to animals who need a little extra help!

Nimitz used up 8 of his 9 lives on his way to OAS, but now he’s safe!

This tiny kitten was trapped on the side of I-880 with all four paw pads missing. Injured, scared, and in desperate need of care. Thanks to medical treatment, foster support, and healing time, Nimitz recovered and got the chance to just be a kitten again!

He’s since been adopted and is now called Rio! He spends his days enjoying his human and kitten sibling and is cuddling up a storm 🥰

Stories like his are why the Baby Animals campaign matters. Donations are doubled until May 31 and help provide emergency medical care, foster supplies, and safe places for vulnerable babies to recover, grow, and thrive. Or, you can also start your own fundraiser to spread the word!

Join us in rising up to raise more tiny survivors like Nimitz and help them get their second chance!

Nutter and Butter started their journey at Lake Merritt, where the tiny Pekin ducklings were found alone and in need of help.

They arrived at Oakland Animal Services with little Nutter facing an especially tough challenge: a broken neck. But thanks to quick care, foster support, and help from a local rescue partner, these two are now waddling and flapping their way toward brighter days.

Your support during our Baby Animals Campaign helps vulnerable babies like Nutter and Butter get the care they need to keep their little bills above water, and thanks to our donor match, your gift can make twice the splash. 🦆

Oro’s story started with parvo, a diagnosis no pup should have to face alone. 💛

With medical care, foster support, and a safe place to recover through Oakland Animal Services, Oro was able to keep fighting through treatment one day at a time. Once stable, he was transferred to rescue to continue healing in his same foster home, which is exactly the kind of teamwork that gives vulnerable puppies a second chance!

Every donation helps provide lifesaving care, foster support, and hope for dogs like Oro. And thanks to our donor match, your gift can go twice as far for animals who need it most.

From fostering to community medical care to thousands of adoptions, your support made a huge impact for Oakland’s animals in 2025. Check out our 2025 Impact Report!

This past year, FOAS helped:
🐾 2,296 animals in foster
🐾 2,669 animals get adopted
🐾 Host 50 Pup-Up adoption events
🐾 Provide 832 hours of dog playgroups
🐾 Support medical care for 1,794 animals in underserved communities
…and so much more

And right now, during our Baby Animals campaign, that support is helping the next wave of tiny puppies, kittens, bunnies, ducklings, and more get the care they need to grow up safe, healthy, and loved.

Thank you for being part of this lifesaving work for Oakland’s animals! Check out the link in our bio for the full 2025 Impact Report.

Bonnet may have been found stray in a park, but she’s since landed in a loving home!

This sweet shepherd mix spent time in foster learning how to puppy, making dog friends, soaking up love, and perfecting the art of cuddling. Bonnet’s journey is proof that foster care gives baby animals the chance to feel safe, grow, and shine.

Every donation during our Baby Animals campaign helps provide food, medical care, foster support, and second chances for puppies like Bonnet!

Thanks to this incredible community, we’ve already raised nearly $12,000 toward our $50,000 Baby Animals Campaign goal! That’s a lot of bottles, blankets, snacks, meds, and tiny toe beans supported already.

We’re not kitten around when we say every dollar helps save lives, our hearts are filling up and let’s keep the number growing!

Please join us in welcoming Robin Wiedner as the new Executive Director of FOAS! She is already a familiar face in our community as both a dedicated OAS volunteer and former FOAS board member, and we’re thrilled to have her stepping into this leadership role!

Robin brings years of nonprofit leadership experience, a deep commitment to animal welfare, and a collaborative spirit that will help continue and grow the lifesaving work happening every day for Oakland’s animals and the people who love them.

In Robin’s words, “I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to help lead FOAS and build on the lifesaving work the organization does for Oakland’s animals and community. FOAS has transformed outcomes at OAS through innovative programs, community support, and an unwavering commitment to lifesaving, made possible by an incredibly passionate team and the generous support of our donors. It will be an honor to work alongside such talented, dedicated, and resilient individuals across FOAS and OAS, including staff, volunteers, and the FOAS board. I look forward to learning from all of you.”

Robin officially begins on May 26, and we can’t wait for our community to get to know her. ❤️
