BRFN is so grateful for our six amazing tutors (three not pictured) in the Hayward Unified tutoring program! HUSD's tutoring program, which BRFN partners to organize, provides after-school academic support and enrichment opportunities for Afghan students across the district, helping them build both school success and a strong sense of community belonging. These incredible women act as the glue in the program -- offering academic guidance, logistical assistance, and social support to ensure students and families feel welcomed. Please join us in thanking them for their dedication, compassion, and great work! ๐Ÿงก

We are thrilled to share that we had a fun and successful year-end celebration for Hayward Unified's tutoring program, with 75 attendees! ๐ŸŽ‰

HUSD's tutoring program, which BRFN partners with and helps organize, provides on-site services for Afghan students and families, including academic tutoring, case management, school supplies distribution, interpretation, liaison support with school staff, field trips, educational workshops for parents, and community and cultural events.

This past Friday, we celebrated the end of the school year for this program with pizza and delicious treats, arts and crafts for children, a presentation on mental health and self-care for mothers by Diversity in Health Training Institute and ICNA Relief, gift bags for mothers, summer study supplies for children, and a certificate ceremony recognizing students' hard work and achievements.

Many families shared how meaningful this program has been for them and how it has helped them feel welcomed, connected, and a true sense of belonging within their school community. Thank you to our partners who helped make this program and celebration such a success. โ™ฅ๏ธ

Sewing Classes for Afghan Women ๐Ÿงต BRFN recently kicked off a 5-week sewing program!

The participants are Afghan mothers, brought together through our partnership between BRFN and Hayward Unified. These fourteen women are joining us to learn about hand-sewing techniques. Beyond skill-building, many shared how the space joyfully reminded them of sewing gatherings back home in Afghanistan. Weโ€™re looking forward to continuing to grow this warm and supportive community! โค
