Yoana’s brother Carlos was arrested by ICE agents inside the Sonoma County Jail last week. Now he is detained at California City ICE Detention Center, where we already know that dangerous and inhumane conditions exist – including a ban on contact visits that cruelly prohibits people from hugging their loved ones.

Yoana bravely spoke out during a press conference in Santa Rosa, CA, while traveling nearly 400 miles to visit her brother. She denounced the way the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office treated her, denying her information about her brother’s whereabouts even as they chose to share that information with federal immigration agents. Yoana demands answers!

CCIJ is proud to have joined , the Migrant Justice in Action initiative of the , the Sonoma County Sanctuary Coalition, and community groups & supporters at yesterday’s press conference where community members stood in solidarity with those impacted by ICE detention and called for the Sonoma County Sheriff to end ALL collaboration with ICE – an agency that separates families, violently abuses people, racially profiles, runs deadly detention centers, and deports people.
