Only 15% of women hold senior positions in the solar energy sector. ☀️

They remain vastly underrepresented in an industry that should be promoting equity.

But when women are at the helm, the impact speaks for itself.

Case in point: Salinee Hurley. As founder of the social enterprise SunSawang, she’s transforming off-grid solar into sustainable, locally-owned solutions—creating lasting change in communities along the Thailand-Myanmar border.

Read more about her in this article ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gF93BASb

At New Energy Nexus, we are powering women-led startups with solutions that fast-track the energy transition. In Thailand, our SolarSTEP program equips women solar technicians and entrepreneurs across the country, including Salinee. 💪

Behind the bustling streets of Yogyakarta in Indonesia, people with disabilities often face limited access to friendly and inclusive public transportation.

But what happens when these barriers are shattered through collective action, specially modified motorbikes, and the touch of digital mobile technology?

DIFABIKE breaks down the walls that limit mobility while proving that economic independence truly belongs to everyone. Watch how they are transforming urban mobility with accessible, inclusive transportation solutions. ⬇️

This startup in Bali, Indonesia, is proving that local solutions can reshape how communities power their future.

Volto Sea, led by CEO Putu Yindy Kurniawan, is shifting coastal communities away from polluting fossil fuels by converting traditional boats to electric power and deploying charging infrastructure for cleaner marine transport.

With support from New Energy Nexus Indonesia through the Matangi Bali program, the startup is building a quieter, lower-emission future for Indonesia’s seas, one boat at a time.

Women climate entrepreneurs remain underfunded leaders of the energy transition.

According to the IFC - International Finance Corporation, just 9% of venture capital goes to women climate tech founders globally. That’s a missed opportunity to fund solutions the world urgently needs.

Through She Wins Climate Southeast Asia, New Energy Nexus and the IFC partnered to support women climate founders across the region with the skills, networks, and resources needed to build investable, scalable businesses.

In Thailand, where temperatures can reach 43°C (109°F), keeping homes and businesses cool is becoming both a necessity and a growing energy challenge.

This is what PAC Corporation is tackling head-on. Founder Atchara Poomee‘s company develops air conditioning systems that can reduce electricity costs by up to 20% by integrating solar energy and recycled power.

Watch how they‘re doing it, and why solutions like these will be increasingly important as temperatures rise and energy demand grows. ⬇️

As NEX Thailand Head of Programs Kotchakorn Khwamchareon puts it, “Energy efficiency is a quiet backbone of the energy transition.” Through our programs in Thailand, we're backing entrepreneurs building practical solutions that lower energy costs, strengthen resilience, and accelerate the shift to clean energy.

"Unlike those days when the sun used to disturb us — now when the sun comes, we have our solar water pump."

That line, from a farmer in Amuru District, Northern Uganda, says more than any statistic could.

In Northern Uganda, nearly 90% of smallholder farmers work the land by hand. For families like hers, the gap between what they grow and what they could grow is, at its core, an energy problem.

New Energy Nexus is helping close it, through low-interest financing for solar irrigation pumps, plus so much more, for farming communities across Amuru and Nwoya Districts.

World Environment Day arrives at a telling moment. As the world is reminded of the need for urgent climate action, its reliance on fossil fuels—the very thing driving the climate crisis—is being tested by a global oil and gas shock.

Amid this uncertainty, clean energy entrepreneurs are building the solutions needed to accelerate the transition. So, how can countries at the tipping point of clean energy adoption, from Pakistan to the Philippines, help entrepreneurs scale their solutions?

Entrepreneurs are responding to the energy crisis in real time: building businesses that help communities lower costs, stabilize energy access, and gain greater control over their energy future.

06/05/2026

This World Environment Day, the case for clean energy is everywhere.

Fossil fuel dependence is becoming more expensive and unstable, while demand for cheaper, more reliable clean energy is rising fast.

But demand alone does not build the transition. Entrepreneurs do.

New Energy Nexus supports the people turning clean energy into practical solutions for households, businesses and communities, from training local installers to backing startups with capital, networks and support.

➡️ To date, we’ve supported 11,000+ entrepreneurs and helped mobilise more than US$5.4 billion in follow-on funding and investment.

Thailand has the talent, market demand, and industrial base to build world-class clean energy companies.

Yet despite mounting pressure from the oil and gas crisis, too few startups are reaching the scale needed to accelerate the country’s energy transition.

What policy changes could help turn more promising ideas into investment-ready ventures?

New Energy Nexus Thailand’s Kotchakorn Khwamchareon shares three practical recommendations, informed by conversations with founders and investors across the ecosystem.
