Last week, BANANAS tabled at the Fremont Measure C orientation! 🎶

Forty child care providers came by. Each one got the BANANAS Music Is Life program materials and a free speaker to use with the kids in their care. (Those red boxes are the free speakers! 🎁)

Thank you to First 5 for hosting! This session is required for all providers who get Measure C funding, and it was great to meet everyone.

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Joint Annual Conference! 🚀

Our team spent a few days in Sacramento learning and sharing knowledge with child care professionals from all over California, all working toward the same goal: making life better for parents, families, and child care providers. Big thanks to and for bringing us together around this year’s theme, “Partnering for Impact: Strengthening Families, Supporting Communities.”

We’re especially proud that our Director of Development & Communications and a member of her team both led sessions. We’re heading home inspired and ready to put these ideas to work for the families we serve. 💛

California is home to more than 15 million Latino residents. Their roots stretch across the Americas and include Indigenous, African, and many other communities.

The celebration began in 1968 as a single week and grew into a full month in 1988. Join us in celebrating the culture, language, and stories of the families we're proud to serve.

📚 Read: pick up a book by a Latino author at your local library

🎧 Listen: try an audiobook, or music and podcasts from Latino voices

📝 Learn: talk with your kids about where the traditions come from

How will you celebrate? Tell us below! 👇

Looking back at a wonderful time celebrating the Oakland Literacy Coalition at their Chapters of Change event! 📚✨

The Coalition is a true force for our community—BANANAS has been grateful to receive a mini-grant of 400 books annually for the last 5 years, supporting events like Books for Bedtime, our Summer Kickoff, and our R&R free books library.

It was inspiring to celebrate a decade of building a thriving literacy ecosystem in Oakland and to see Dr. Kyla Johnson-Trammell (Champion of Change Award) and Chris Helfrich on behalf of Eat.Learn.Play (Community Champion Award) honored for their incredible work. Thank you to everyone helping turn literacy into a public priority! 💛
