Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County We envision an Orange County with food and nutritional security for all.

At Second Harvest Food Bank, our vision is an Orange County with food and nutritional security for all. In collaboration with our partners, we provide dignified, equitable and consistent access to nutritious food, creating a foundation for community health. Our partner network includes houses of worship, schools, after-school programs, colleges and universities, senior centers, shelters for the un
housed, soup kitchens and transitional housing facilities, with sites at 380 locations throughout the county. In fiscal year 2024-2025, we distributed 42.1 million pounds of food to an average of 459,000 (duplicated) community members in need each month. Approximately 20,000-40,000 pounds of produce is harvested each month at the 40-acre Harvest Solutions Farm located in Irvine and begun in August 2021. For more information, visit feedoc.org.

What has Second Harvest been up to this fall? Quite a bit. 🧡

Our Fall 2026 newsletter is a chance to catch up on the work happening across our community. We’re taking a closer look at new food insecurity data for Orange County, reflecting on a busy Hunger Action Month and sharing some of the people and partnerships that make this work possible.

There’s plenty to enjoy, too, including Chef Tony Esnault’s tips for fall produce and an early look at what’s ahead for the 2027 Walk to Feed OC.

Meet Malik Freeman, Workforce Development Program Supervisor at Second Harvest Food Bank.

Malik leads three programs, Workforce Development, College Corps and Cultivate, that give community members facing employment barriers, college students and high schoolers hands-on experience and a path into the workforce. His teams support more than 25% of Second Harvest's order-processing workload, and several participants have gone on to full-time roles at the Food Bank.

We have big news: a new $12,500 matching gift just came in! 🎉

Claudia Looney, in honor of Mary Bianco of The Moca Foundation, has joined the Cheng Family Foundation and Mohamed & Gulie Hamir in our Hunger Action Month matching challenge, which means even more donations will be doubled through September 30.

In Orange County, one in six children faces food insecurity. Kids should be focused on school, friends and simply being kids, not where their next meal is coming from.

Help us reach our $150,000 goal, enough to provide about 300,000 pounds of nutritious food for local children, seniors and families.

Yesterday, we celebrated breaking ground on a brand-new Processing Room at our Distribution Center! 🎉🚧

Thanks to a $1.1 million lead gift from the J.W. and Sandra Mitchell Foundation, this temperature-controlled space will help us safely process more nutritious, perishable food, adding an estimated 500,000 pounds of fresh produce to our distribution each year.

The $1.8 million project, which includes construction and three years of operating support, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. With generous support from the J.W. and Sandra Mitchell Foundation, the Roberto Foundation and other donors, we’ve made significant progress, but funding is still needed to close the gap.

With 1 in 8 Orange County residents facing food insecurity, every gift helps bring more nutritious food to community members across the county.

Help us fully fund the Processing Room and expand access to fresh, nutritious food. Make a gift today: https://feedoc.org/donate/

Thank you to Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris and more than 100 volunteers who came out to volunteer with us at both our Distribution Center and Harvest Solutions Farm (our farm partnership with UC South Coast Research & Cooperative Extension of Orange County and Solutions for Urban Agriculture) last week as part of Hunger Action Month. Volunteers helped harvest and process over 10,000 pounds of fresh cucumbers, bell peppers, yellow squash and zucchini that will go out this week to our food pantry network.

Have a few hours and enjoy being behind the wheel? 🚚

Second Harvest is looking for volunteer drivers to help pick up and deliver nutritious food across Orange County.

There are two ways to get involved: drive one of Second Harvest’s box trucks or Sprinter vans, or use your own vehicle to pick up food donations from local grocery stores and deliver them to a nearby Partner site or our Food Bank.

Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., with shifts ranging from a few hours to a full day. We’re especially looking for volunteers who are available on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Your time on the road can help nutritious food reach community members throughout Orange County. 🧡
