Sharing wisdom from OVRHL wellness studio & The End of Isolation Director, Sarah Shourd on somatics, embodiment, and collective healing. 🧘🏾‍♂️🌀

In engaging with topics like mass incarceration, systemic oppression, and the trauma of isolation, healing cannot happen through the mind alone.

We need practices that help us MOVE grief, fear, and heaviness through the body — the very place where pain is held and transformation becomes possible.

Somatics (the practice of healing through the body) deeply informs Sarah's personal life and creative work. was an essential healing space for Sarah while bringing this film into the world. If you’re in the Bay Area, we highly recommend checking out their offerings!✨✨

And if you’re in San Francisco, join us for the world premiere of End of Isolation on 5/31 at 2:15 PM at the Vogue Theatre in Presidio Heights.

Afterwards, we’ll gather at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, where Jihan McDonald will lead a meditation practice to help us envision the futures we hope to create.

Join us to celebrate the world premiere of The End of Isolation film!

The theme of our post-premiere afterparty is “Freedom Dreaming.”

We spend so much time in our movement struggling and fighting... We need moments to take a breath together, celebrate our victories, and collectively imagine the beautiful future we’re building.

The afterparty will take place immediately following the film. We’ll walk together to the JCC (a 3-minute walk from the Vogue) for the chance to celebrate all the work, intention, and care that brought this film to life.

You’ll also hear from some of the film’s participants and have time to connect with the community that has formed around this project.

Light refreshments and drinks provided.

This is a film about people across the U.S. who come out of prison determined to reimagine and build a new paradigm for justice. Structured as a journey from oppression to resistance to hope, The End of Isolation elevates voices radicalized by lived injustice.

For example, Inez Bordeaux, who was imprisoned at the Workhouse Jail in St. Louis for the "crime" of overdrawing unemployment benefits.

Inez was so radicalized by the inhumanity she experienced at the jail that, after her release, she led the campaign that successfully and permanently shut down the jail in 2021. Her personal transformation, from silenced victim to role model for her children and many others, parallels the transformation of her community.
