The Historic District Commission manages Cranberry Lake Farm (CLF) in the Charter Township of Oakland. The main house has been around since the 1840s, the farmstead developed into a working farm by the Kline family, was lost in the Great Depression, was purchased for use as a summer retreat 1939-1951 by Howard A. Coffin, US House of Representatives, was rented as a children’s home, later lived in by a Christian commune, and finally purchased by the Charter Township of Oakland in 1996. The Oakland Township Historical Society with the Historic District Commission, saved the buildings on site to preserve the history. CLF was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Since then, the Township, Oakland Township Historical Society, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Historic District Commission have all expended a lot of time and energy to maintain, manage, and promote the farm for events, programs, concerts, and education for the benefit of the local residents in the Greater Rochester area.
