Happy September!

This Labor Day weekend is going to be so fun. The Mariposa Fair is upon us, as well as Oakchella!

Last week, Ella and I had the chance to head over to Ritual Wellness and experience her amazing Mocktail & Chair Massage Happy Hour.

Every Sunday from 2 to 3, Nevada will be serving a delicious mocktail crafted with ingredients from her shop, as well as offering a few minutes of chair massage free of charge.

This little afternoon reset is so nice, and offers the perfect opportunity to schedule a service with Nevada, or to browse all of the amazing goods Ritual Wellness has to offer.

You'll find local favorites like Kern Family Farm Tea Blends, Magic is Love Candles, Resonance Perfumery products, and so much more.

This peaceful little moment was the best way to spend a little bit of our Sunday afternoon, and we are very grateful to Ritual Wellness for having us in and for offering this event to the community.

It's the last weekend of Music on the Green at the Mariposa Art Park, and the Yosemite Jazz Train is sure to be great. We're also so excited for Mocktail and Chair Massage Happy Hour at Ritual Wellness! (We'll be sharing more about that tomorrow!)

One of our favorite parts of Mountain Artisans Market is that it isn’t just a place to shop local, it’s a place for our community to show up for one another.

The music you hear at the market comes from artists who live right here in our foothill communities, and today’s lineup is such a good example of that.

6:30-7:30 pm | Logan Casey, from Coarsegold
7:45-until the end of the night | Line Dancing with Justin, who teaches line dancing at the Oakhurst Community Center, is putting together a special line dancing class just for the market tonight!

What is an Olde Fashioned Afternoon Tea?

There was once a time when afternoons were meant to be savored.

A pot of tea was shared among friends, conversations lasted a little longer, and simple moments became lasting memories.

On Saturday, September 26, we invite you to step back into that tradition at the beautiful Cunningham Schoolhouse in Fresno Flats Historic Park.

Join us for an afternoon of:

- Finger sandwiches
- Fresh scones & sweet treats
- Beautiful surroundings
- Wonderful conversation

This special event is also a fundraiser to help preserve one of our community's most treasured historic places.

This week's events are sure to be fun!

We would love for you to join us on Saturday from 4pm-9pm at the Mountain Artisans Market! It's the last evening market of the season, and along with an amazing line up of vendors and performers, there will also be line dancing! Check out Mountain Artisans Market for more details!

We're also so excited because this week is the opening week of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Golden Chain Theatre! This amazing cast and crew have put together a phenomenal show, and we're so glad that we have such a wonderful theatre in our mountain community.

There’s something magical about watching a summer sunset unfold over Bass Lake.

This view from the Way of the Mono Trail is one of those places where it’s easy to stop for a while and simply watch. Boats moving across the water, families making their way along the trails, paddle boards catching the last light and then the mountains begin to glow in shades of gold, pink, orange, and purple.

It’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes you don’t have to go far or do much. Just find a view, slow down, and take it in.

The Way of the Mono Trail offers a little glimpse into the history of this place, too, with interpretive signs and grinding holes along the trail, from the Western Mono people, and deserves respect and care.

And the view itself looks across a lake that was created by damming the valley, just a quiet reminder that there’s always more to a landscape than what we see at first glance.

If you visit, enjoy it, respect it, and leave it as beautiful as you found it.

If you spend enough time around Bagby, you start to wonder what this place looked like before the water was here.

Long before Lake McClure filled this part of the Merced River, there was a small community called Bagby.

People lived and worked here during the Gold Rush era, and years later the Yosemite Valley Railroad passed through, carrying passengers and supplies through the foothills on their way toward Yosemite.

For a while, Bagby was a community with its own rhythm. People came and went. Businesses opened. Families made a life along the river.

Then the landscape changed.

When New Exchequer Dam was completed in 1967, the reservoir expanded and the old townsite disappeared beneath the water.

Today, it can feel like there was never a town here at all.

Just the quiet water of Lake McClure.
The oak-covered hills.
The Merced River winding through the foothills.

And the occasional reminder of what came before.

Maybe that’s what makes Bagby such a beautiful place to slow down.

Because when you sit here and watch the water, you’re not just looking at a reservoir.

You’re looking at a landscape that has changed, while still carrying pieces of the story that came before it.

And for a moment, everything feels a little quieter.

The water moves.
The hills stay still.
And there’s nothing you really need to do except take it all in.

There is a lot of history in the Yosemite Foothills.

Sometimes, you just have to stop long enough to notice it.

There’s something special about North Fork.

Maybe it’s the way the community feels connected. Maybe it’s the people who know the stories, the families who have been here for generations, and the people who came here and decided to make this place home.

Or maybe it’s all the little things.

The weathered wood.
The old signs.
The colors and textures.
The windows, doors and buildings that have watched the years go by.
The details you might walk past every day without realizing just how much character they hold.

Downtown North Fork has a wonderful way of making you slow down and look a little closer.

And when you do, you begin to see that the beauty isn’t just in the buildings or the landscape.

It’s in the layers.

The history.
The memories.
The people.
The businesses.
The stories that have been passed along.
And all the little pieces that make this place uniquely North Fork.

Stop and wander around and you might notice something you hadn’t seen before.

A familiar building in a different light.
A bit of old lettering.
A texture in a wall.
A porch, a window, a sign.
Something ordinary that suddenly feels worth photographing.

And maybe that’s the magic of the Yosemite Foothills.

You don’t always have to go looking for something spectacular.

Sometimes you just have to slow down enough to appreciate what’s already here.

North Fork has plenty to say. You just have to look closely and listen.
