One of the things I love most about living in the foothills is that history isn’t tucked away in a textbook, it’s all around us.

We recently spent some time at the Coarsegold Historic Museum for Music in the Meadow, and it was one of those afternoons that reminded me how special these community spaces really are. We brought a charcuterie picnic from The Californian Commissary in Mariposa, picked up a pie from Yosemite Pie Company, spread out and enjoyed a picnic surrounded by history, music, and neighbors.

Beyond the events, the museum itself is such a treasure. The grounds tell the story of Eastern Madera County, from the deep roots of the Chukchansi people and their enduring culture, to the Gold Rush, pioneer families, the Yosemite Stage Road, and the events that shaped the mountain communities we know today.

What makes it even more meaningful is that the museum is cared for by volunteers who dedicate their time to preserving these stories and sharing them with visitors from near and far. Places like this don’t exist by accident, they exist because people continue to support them.

If you’ve never visited, consider this your sign.
Pack a picnic, bring the family, wander through the exhibits, and spend some time connecting with the history of the place we call home.

And if you’re able, consider becoming a member, volunteering, or making a donation. Preserving local history means preserving the stories that connect all of us to this community.

This week is packed with things to do!

There are lots of watch parties for the World Cup lovers, fun & games for all ages, and so much live music! Plus, don’t forget that there’s only two more weekends left to see Double Trouble, this year’s summer melodrama at the Golden Chain Theatre!

I’d also like to remind you that the Foothills Calendar Coordination Meeting is being held on Thursday, and we would love for you to join us as we strive to collaborate on event coordination to benefit the whole community.

The Mountain Artisans Market is on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm at Fresno Flats Historic Village & Park, with a wonderful variety of local vendors and their wares, along with a wonderful lineup of live music!

As always, Yosemite Foothills wants to help connect you with finding the perfect local events.

On our Calendar, you can filter by event type to easily find exactly what you’re looking for.

Along with recreational and community events, the Events Calendar also has information about local community food giveaways and organizations providing free meals for those that need them.

It you have an event or activity to share, I would love for you to add it to the Events Calendar on yosemitefoothills.org/events so that we can continue to share this knowledge base and support our community together.

I know many of you have missed my weekly event videos, and I’m working on bringing them back soon. In the meantime, I hope these posts will be helpful to you.

Oakhurst’s 2nd Annual Pride March & Picnic was a beautiful day filled with community, kindness, and support.

Organized by the Oakhurst LGBTQ+ Group with support from Pastor T and Mountain Unitarian Universalists (MountainUU), the event brought together people from Oakhurst, Fresno, Madera, and surrounding communities for a day of connection and celebration. From the gathering at the library to the march through town and the picnic at Oakhurst Community Park, it was wonderful to see so many different people showing up for one another.

What stood out most was the atmosphere of encouragement and belonging. Families, friends, neighbors, LGBTQ+ community members, and allies gathered together to share conversations, smiles, and support.

It was one of those events that reminded you how meaningful simple acts of kindness and community can be.

It was also great to see representation from organizations and community groups including Grace Community Church UCC, the Imperial Dove Court de Fresno, MountainUU, and other supporters who came together to help create a welcoming and positive environment for all.

The event offered opportunities for people to connect with local resources, support networks, and community organizations. Thank you to everyone who organized, volunteered, participated, and helped make the day possible. It was heartwarming to see people from different backgrounds come together and enjoy a positive, welcoming day in our mountain community.

Clash has truly become one of the beating hearts of Oakhurst.

Whether you’re stopping in to work away from your home office, meeting a friend, or just grabbing your favorite drink, there’s always a feeling that you’re welcome here.

These are little moments that fill my heart, they’re the conversations, the handwritten notes, and the genuine care from the Beuker family and team. It’s the kind of place that reminds me what I love most about living in a small community.

If you’ve never been, it’s hard to describe. It’s colorful, full of life, and filled with so much intention. From the ingredients they choose to the space they’ve created, you can feel the love that’s been poured into every detail. Even more than that, they consistently show up for this community, especially for local youth, and that means a lot.

Thank you, Clash, for being a place where people gather, connect, and feel at home.

And if you haven’t been yet, just a fair warning: there’s a very good chance you’ll find yourself craving Clash at 9 p.m. on a random Tuesday night.
Speaking from experience.

We are so honored to share 67 events with you this week!

Summer has hit the Foothills and brought so many things to do in the first week of June.

We're very excited that Cardboard Castles Creative Studio just opened up in Oakhurst. Beth Pratt's discussion of her new book "Yosemite Wildlife: The Wonder of Wildlife in California's Sierra Nevada" is one you won't want to miss, and Music on the Green is kicking off Friday night with the Yosemite Jazz Band at The Mariposa Arts Park, and there's a special Ramen fundraiser with Little Shop of Ramen from 5-7 to help support Music on the Green!

The last week of May has tons of exciting events in store.

Dancing, karaoke, fun and games, and so much live music. A few exciting additions this week: the first book club at Raven & Pines Bookstore for Lady Tremaine by Rachel Hochhauser, the grand opening and ribbon cutting for Mariposa Sips & Sweets, and the North Fork community dance, which is a masquerade this month!

It brings me so much joy to be able to compile this list for you each week, and as always, we would greatly appreciate your help in maintaining this community resource. It’s super simple to submit any events you want to share with the community at yosemitefoothills.org/events
