Last week, we visited the recently reopened Steptoe Butte State Park Heritage Site — and brought a piece of history along with us.This archival photo was taken on February 12, 1937, capturing a winter view of the snow-covered Palouse from Steptoe Butte.
Holding that image against today’s landscape offered a powerful reminder of how much has changed… and how much has stayed the same.
Snow blanketed the Palouse during our visit — a welcome sight for our farmers. Winter moisture plays a critical role in soil health and crop success in the seasons ahead.
For generations, this landscape has supported working lands, wildlife, and rural communities. Today, conservation efforts continue to help ensure it remains productive and resilient for the future.
Pine Creek Conservation District remains committed to supporting the legacy of this land — partnering with farmers and land managers to steward its health, productivity, and resilience for generations to come.
