🇺🇸 **POST 2922 IS MORE CONNECTED THAN EVER!**

We’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes at **Romain Schell VFW Post 2922**, and we're excited to share some major improvements designed to better serve our veterans, members, families, students and the Oakdale community.

🌐 **OUR WEBSITE HAS BECOME OUR DIGITAL FRONT DOOR**

Visit **OakdaleVFW.org** and you can now:

🎖️ **JOIN POST 2922 ONLINE**
Prospective members can complete their membership application online, upload eligibility documentation and electronically sign their application—all from a phone or computer.

🎓 **SCHOLARSHIPS & RECOGNITION**
Find information and submission resources for Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, our Local Post Scholarship, Teacher Recognition and Public Servant/First Responder Recognition programs.

📅 **POST CALENDAR**
Keep up with Post meetings, dinners, veterans events, community activities and other important dates through our online calendar.

🛍️ **POST 2922 STORE**
Our new online store is live! Members and supporters can shop Post apparel, hats, mugs and other merchandise online without the Post having to maintain inventory.

📞 **WE NOW HAVE A DEDICATED POST PHONE NUMBER**

**Call or Text: (209) 322-9699**

This is a permanent Post number—not an individual member’s personal phone. Calls, texts and voicemail can now be centrally managed so inquiries are much less likely to be missed.

📧 **STAY CONNECTED**
Our website, Post email and new phone system now work together to provide one central point of contact for Post 2922.

Most importantly, these systems weren't built around one officer or one administration. They were built for **Post 2922** so they can be maintained and passed forward to future officers and members.

Our mission hasn't changed.

**We're simply giving our Post better tools to accomplish it.**

🇺🇸 Their future may begin with your encouragement.

Parents, grandparents and relatives often see a young person’s potential before the student recognizes it themselves. A simple conversation—“You have something worth saying, and I think you should try this”—could open an unexpected door.

Oakdale VFW Post 2922 invites local students to participate in two national youth scholarship competitions:

📝 Patriot’s Pen — Grades 6–8
A 300–400-word written essay with opportunities to win local, state and national awards, including a $5,000 national first-place award.

🎙️ Voice of Democracy — Grades 9–12
A recorded audio essay with scholarship opportunities, including a $35,000 national first-place scholarship.

The 2026–27 theme is:

“What a Veteran Taught Me About America.”

📅 Entries are due October 31, 2026.

Forms and complete instructions are available at:

Students and families do not have to navigate this alone. If your student needs help understanding the rules, completing the entry form, recording an audio essay or preparing their submission, contact Post 2922. We will provide assistance to every student who asks for it.

Help them take the first step. Their voice—and their future—may be bigger than they realize.

🇺🇸 Maybe you’ve thought about coming to a VFW meeting before.

Maybe you weren’t sure what to expect.

Maybe you figured you wouldn’t know anyone.

Maybe life just got busy and you kept telling yourself, “I’ll check it out one of these months.”

Consider this your invitation.

VFW Post 2922 meets the second Wednesday of every month at H-B Restaurant in Oakdale.

🕕 6:00 PM — Come early, order some dinner, sit down, and get to know a few people.

🕖 7:00 PM — Our regular monthly meeting begins.

There’s no sales pitch.

No expectation that you sign up for anything.

No need to know somebody before you walk through the door.

Just veterans, families, and members of the community spending some time together and working toward something worthwhile.

For some people, the VFW is about service.

For others, it’s camaraderie.

For some, it’s simply having a place where you don’t have to explain the part of your life that came in uniform.

And sometimes, that matters more than people realize.

We’re working to build a Post that is active, welcoming, and connected to the Oakdale community — and there’s always room for another good person at the table.

If you served, come meet us.

If you’re a military family member and want to learn more about the Auxiliary, come meet us.

If you simply want to help support local veterans, come meet us.

No pressure. No obligation. Just come by and say hello.

🇺🇸 HONORING OUR HEROES: SGT. 1ST CLASS RONALD E. ROSSER

As we continue our Honoring Our Heroes series, Oakdale VFW Post 2922 remembers an extraordinary American soldier and fellow VFW member: Sgt. 1st Class Ronald E. Rosser, Medal of Honor recipient and Korean War veteran.

Rosser was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1929, one of 17 children. He joined the U.S. Army at only 17 years old. After completing his first enlistment, he returned to civilian life and worked as a coal miner.

Then his younger brother Richard was killed in Korea.

Rosser reenlisted and volunteered for combat duty.

On January 12, 1952, Corporal Rosser was serving as a forward observer with the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, near Ponggilli, Korea. His unit came under devastating fire while attempting to seize heavily fortified enemy positions.

Armed initially with a carbine and a gr***de, Rosser charged the enemy positions. He exhausted his ammunition, returned through enemy fire for more, and then fought his way back up the hill — three separate times.

Although wounded himself, Rosser repeatedly crossed exposed ground under fire to help evacuate other wounded soldiers. His actions that day helped save the lives of men fighting beside him.

On June 27, 1952, President Harry S. Truman presented Ronald Rosser with the Medal of Honor at the White House for gallantry above and beyond the call of duty.

Rosser went on to make the Army his career, ultimately retiring as a Sergeant First Class. After military service, he spent years sharing his experiences with students, soldiers and communities, speaking about honor, service and the choices we make in life. He also established scholarship programs honoring his brothers Richard and Gary, both of whom died while serving their country.

He remained active in veterans organizations throughout his life and was a Life Member of VFW Post 3297 in Ohio.

Ronald Rosser died on August 26, 2020, at the age of 90.

This August, as our Post continues working to preserve the stories of the men and women who served before us, we remember Ronald Rosser not simply for the medal he wore, but for the courage, humility and service it represented.

May his legacy never be forgotten.

For everyone’s privacy, please do not post names or personal circumstances in the comments.

Sometimes asking for help is the hardest part. If you know a veteran who is quietly struggling, please reach out—or share this post so it reaches the right person.
