🔎🌳 Our First Homeschool Discovery Club Was a Success!

Last Thursday, we kicked off our Homeschool Discovery Club with a little mystery!

Our young detectives were given a question:

🌳 “If every tree lost its leaves tonight, would you still be able to figure out which tree was which?”

Armed with their detective badges, evidence bags, and observation skills, our investigators got to work!

🔎 Exhibit A: Bark
🔎 Exhibit B: Twigs
🔎 Exhibit C: Leaves

Our detectives learned how to identify trees by examining different characteristics and discovering that there’s much more to a tree than just its leaves!

The adventure didn’t stop at the library! Each detective also received a take-home field book filled with additional missions and challenges to continue exploring and learning. Completed missions can be brought back to the library for a prize box reward! 🔎🌳

We had so much fun exploring, investigating, and learning together! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our very first adventure!

Join rangers in Oak Ridge on Saturday October 3 at 1pm ET for a guided walk through the pre-Manhattan Project community of Wheat. As you walk the former townsite, rangers will discuss the families and communities the Manhattan Project displaced in late 1942. Stops include the George Jones Memorial Baptist Church, Roane College site and the Crawford Cumberland Presbyterian Memorial.

This free program will begin at the Wheat Greenway gravel parking lot on Blair Road, .25 mile (.45 km) north of the intersection with the Oak Ridge Turnpike. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) on gravel paths and trails. The trail to the Roane College site includes a slight incline. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water to drink. Registration is not required.

Rabbit- Rabbit!

Rabbit- Rabbit!

Tradition says that for good fortune all October long, you should say "RABBIT RABBIT!" as your very first words of the new month. Or why not THREE rabbits? Welcoming the day with a dance of gratitude is also a good beginning.
