Today, a WGHP-TV story highlights the inspiring journey of Sylvia DiRosa, a member of Troop 219 (www.troop219g.com) in Oak Ridge, North Carolina, as she works toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Sylvia faces the daily challenges of Lyme disease and lingering complications from COVID, conditions often described as “hidden illnesses” because their effects are not always visible.
Her Eagle Scout service project reflects her personal journey and aims to provide a voice for others living with hidden illnesses. Through her efforts leading workshops across North Carolina, Sylvia hopes to increase understanding, compassion, and awareness for people whose struggles may not be immediately apparent to others. Attendees at the 2026 National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia this summer will also have an opportunity to experience her project firsthand.
Sylvia’s journey has been strengthened by the support of Troop 219, founded in 2019 with a mission to welcome all young women in grades 5 through 12, including those with special needs and different abilities.
The WGHP feature showcased not only Sylvia’s resilience but also the inclusive and supportive spirit of Troop 219. If you know of a young person with a "hidden" illness or who wants to support those who do, direct them to www.troop219g.com.
