Caring Arts Foundation

We provide emotional support and encourage creative expression for Chicago area cancer patients and their families through the arts.

Our Caring Arts program pairs artists in the community with cancer treatment centers, as a way to provide cancer patients and caregivers guidance in finding their own expressive voice through an art form. Artists are high-caliber professionals from a variety of disciplines, including painting, photography, journaling, music & dance.

Last month’s Mixed Media class theme at Wellness House was “April Showers” so of course this month was all about “May Flowers.” Everyone chose acrylics this time. A fun and fruitful afternoon!

Creating contemporary paper landscape collage at Mind-Body Fest at Wellness House this morning. 3 sessions of 15 participants each. There were many programs to choose from to get a taste of what Wellness House has to offer. Some very creative work here!

Rainy Day art… on a sunny day! And what fun we had at Waterford Place in Aurora. Talking, laughing, experimenting and creating. Living in the moment together. We welcomed a couple of “newbies” too, which is always fun. Acrylics on canvas, watercolor and pastels, check out the wonderful results!

It’s April Showers time and we’ve had plenty of those, so we decided to let them inspire us for Rainy Day paintings at this week’s Caring Arts class at Wellness House in Hinsdale. Acrylics on canvas and watercolor on paper provided lots of opportunity for experimentation and incredible results!

Another “overflow” group for Caring Arts, this time at Gilda's Club Chicago South in Oak Lawn. We had to add tables in the kids room to accommodate everyone, but we do our best to make it work! We created early spring images with soft pastels. Not everyone finished, but they got to take the pastel sets home to finish them there. Fun, conversation and creativity. What could be better?

This month’s Mixed Media class at Waterford Place in Aurora. Our classes just keep getting bigger! That’s ok, the more the merrier. This month’s theme was “first signs of spring,” using acrylics, watercolors or soft pastels. It’s so fun to see which image each person chooses and how they interpret it.

Signs of spring: crocus pushing through snow, robin nests, bunnies, p***y willows and more, all painted in acrylic at Wellness House. One of our biggest classes too! This is serious business, but also a fun and healing experience.
