Enhancing Educational Opportunities: A Report on the Assessment Visit to Havils Hybrain School Complex
On April 10th, 2024, Soles of Hope representatives, Mr. Kelvin Osei Boateng and Mr. Kingsley Opoku Antwi, conducted an assessment visit to the Havils Hybrain School Complex in Bekwai, Ashanti Region, Ghana. This visit was in response to the school's request for computers to aid in the education of underprivileged pupils. The representatives aimed to assess the school's specific needs and explore partnership opportunities to boost educational outcomes in line with Soles of Hope's mission to support educational initiatives in Ghana.
Havils Hybrain School Complex, founded in 2017 by Mr. George Ankomah and his wife, Madam Patricia Ankomah, serves children from Kindergarten through Class 5. Despite its commitment to quality education, the school faces challenges such as limited infrastructure, financial difficulties, and a significant shortage of computer resources.
The most pressing issue identified was the inadequate computer resources, with only one laptop available for instructional use, severely limiting practical ICT education and student exposure to necessary technology. Observations and interactions with the school's environment, students, and staff highlighted the urgent need for technological resources. Students primarily relied on theoretical teaching methods, which hampers their ICT proficiency and future opportunities in a digitizing global landscape.
Based on these observations, the assessment team recommends that Soles of Hope provide computers to enable practical ICT education and improve digital literacy at the school.
In the next couple weeks the Soles of Hope IT team will set up a computer resource room to provide the necessary technology needed to develop the students knowledge. Thank you Kelvin and Kingsley for providing ground support.
