The night will kick off at 7:00 PM with live music from the OPRF Jazz Quartet. Enjoy wine, beer, and heavy appetizers while you mingle and browse CAST-inspired raffle packages. At 8:00 PM, our professional trivia host will lead 90 minutes of team-based competition. Bring your smartest friends — or come solo and we’ll match you with a team!

Our thespians have been working hard to bring you our newest show in March!

Guest director Jason Gerace returns after last year’s highly successful production of The Little Prince with an adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Possibly one of CAST’s most performed plays featuring the rowdy players, the loquacious lovers and the out of touch royals who are no match for the gods and fairies and sprites at play in nature.

CAST’s 2025 Spring Season is upon us and starts after auditions on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in the Julian Auditorium at 3:30PM! This season will hold two MainStage plays ("DIFFERENT VOICES: Celebrating Dr. Julian" and "A Midsummer Night’s Dream") as well as our musical workshop/review, "Masquerade".

We have two brilliant shows coming to the Julian Auditorium this weekend!!!

THE ELECTION

After an embattled student body president resigns in disgrace, Mark Davenport figures he will cruise to victory in the special election. After all, his only opponent is nerdy Christy Martin, who wants to eliminate football. But when a mysterious Super PAC gives her an unlimited budget, things start to get very ugly. Mark must face total annihilation or accept the services of a slick professional campaign manager with questionable ethics and a million-dollar Super PAC of his own. A hilarious and timely satire on the contemporary political scene by Don Zolidis, author of last year’s Badger.

CAST AMBASSADORS

For many years the CAST Program has been asked to put together short, fun performances on important topics like anti-bullying, self-respect, making friends and other things picked by students and written for student audiences to enjoy. This year we present the best of these scripts AND MUSICAL NUMBERS from over the years. In addition to performances at JULIAN this group of hand-picked student performers travel as ambassadors to other places in Oak Park to present this work.

In just under two weeks, CAST at Julian will present The Drowsy Chaperone!!!

When a die-hard theatre fan plays his favorite cast album, the characters come to life in this hilarious musical farce. The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. Winner of 5 Tony awards, and hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical," The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre. Because of its many featured roles and accessible script, The Drowsy Chaperone will fit perfectly into any educational theatre company’s favorite repertoire.

We're excited to have TWO talented casts featured in principal roles this fall! Come see The Fancy Dresses and The Show Offs as they alternate to your heart's delight all weekend.

Welcome to the 2024-25 season of CAST at Julian!!! We have so much excitement in store for you all.

This THURSDAY (8/29), we are having our “How to Audition Workshop” after school at 3:30pm! This is not a mandatory activity, but it’s a great one for students new to CAST, those who want to brush up on their skills, or who just can’t get enough of CAST and want to get started on the season. (Hot tip: you’ll find out what shows are happening this year!)

And then next week, on Wednesday, Sep 4, we will be hosting our fall auditions! This begins at 3:30p and goes until the last student has auditioned (typically 2 hrs), so make sure your student brings a snack and water. Also, the reception in the auditorium isn’t great, so don’t panic if texts you send them aren’t received/responded to right away. Students are asked to perform a monologue of their choice that is about 1 min in length and we recommend that they have it memorized. Auditions can bring up a lot of feelings, so make sure your kids know that it is very normal to stumble, make mistakes or have the same monologue as someone else. We are all learning and growing! And the directors are truly excited to get to know who wants to participate in their shows! There may be callbacks on Thursday and/or Friday afternoons for certain shows, so be prepared to return to the auditorium after school on those days, as well.

If your student isn't quite ready to take the leap to the stage yet we also offer a stage crew option. Our first crew call will be on Saturday, October 19th from 10am - noon. No need to sign up, just have your student come to Julian (enter through the Commons doors) and make sure that they are dressed for a mess!
