Good Morning Everyone,

To every single person who gives their time, energy, and heart to our community: THANK YOU. 💙

When we say we couldn't do this work without you, we mean it. Every single week, you show up for our neighbors facing homelessness and food insecurity in ways that go far beyond just completing a task:

To our set-up and serving crews: Thank you for stepping in when we’re short-handed, working behind the scenes, and ensuring everything runs smoothly so our friends always feel welcomed.

To our clothing pantry team: Thank you for keeping our space organized, folding and sorting, and taking the time to sit and visit with our friends so they feel seen, valued, and heard.

To our Monday night food teams: Thank you to everyone who cooks, caters, and serves a warm meal every week. Your hard work nourishes more than just bodies—it brings comfort and dignity.

You show up with warm smiles and open hearts week after week. We appreciate you more than you will ever know. Thank you for loving our friends the way we do.

If you are interested in volunteering we would love to have you, if you would like to sign up for our soup kitchen dinner or sign up to bring bagged lunches here is the link. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A48A9AF29A4FFC07-52823429-stone

Hello Everyone,

Two days in a row, we are coming to you asking for help—and honestly, we wish we didn’t have to. But after who walked through our doors today, we couldn't stay silent.

Two moms stood in our office today, completely broken, fighting back tears to hide their fear from their children.

One is a single mother of four. She woke up today to find her water turned off, leaving behind a notification on her door: $612.90 plus a reconnection fee just to restore basic water service for her family.

The other is a mother of three who came to the office holding her new baby facing an urgent disconnection notice from Nicor Gas totaling $660.39. While we are actively working with the township to apply for LIHEAP assistance isnt available until October. Also spoke with Nicor trying to negotiate an emergency payment plan.

Nobody should have to choose between keeping the water running, keeping the gas on, or feeding their kids. These mothers are doing everything they can, but families in our community are being stretched far past their breaking points.

If you feel it on your heart to send a financial donation today, you have no idea how much it would mean to these mommas.

Hello everyone,

It breaks my heart to ask for your help again so soon, but the need in our community has spiked drastically and our funds are running dangerously low. Every single day, we are on the front lines ensuring our neighbors experiencing homelessness and food insecurity don't slip through the cracks—but right now, we can't do it without you.

Here is a quick look at how your donations directly impacted lives just this past 2 weeks:

Direct Family Support:
o Paid $511 to help a young man who worked incredibly hard to rebuild his life get his driver's license restored after not having one for 20 years. Hes been clean for 3 years and finally has a stable place to live now and is working on getting a car and a job.
o Covered $167.10 in rent and a $259.00 security deposit to secure stable housing for Mr. Hall.
o Provided $200 in rental assistance for a key volunteer who gives so much back to our community.
o Covered $150 towards a water bill for a single mother of two.
• Essential Income & Mobility Protection:
o Reconnected communication by paying phone bills of $66.45 and $130.00 for newly housed individuals and families.
o Provided $40 in gas each for two friends currently living in their cars.
o Filled 26 bus passes ($20 Each) to keep community members connected to jobs, medical appointments, and services.
• Emergency Relief & Meals:
o Funded groceries for two struggling families ($75.99 and $127.69).
o Provided $70.64 to replace a friend’s stolen phone.
o Gave $40 in Burger King gift cards ($20 each) to two friends so they had a safe place to sit inside while our facilities were closed over the weekend.

Urgent Financial Needs Today
We have three critical emergency situations that need immediate coverage:
1. Single Dad of 3 (Living in a Motel): Needs a set of tires for his vehicle. His current tires cannot hold air, forcing him to stop and pump them daily just to keep his kids safe and mobile. Approximately $86 each
2. Single Mom (DoorDash Driver): Needs $150 for her car insurance so she doesn't lose her primary source of income and fall further behind.
3. Single Mom with 3 kids, one being a new baby is in need of assistance for her Nicor bill, she received a disconnection notice, minimum payment $150, she did apply for Liheap but they are out of funding.

Immediate Physical Item Donations Needed
If you cannot donate financially, we are urgently collecting the following items for friends who were recently housed:
• Pillows (New)
• Towels
• Shower Passes
• 1 Queen Box Spring

Hello Everyone

As the back-to-school season kicks off, the need in our community is growing faster than ever. Every week, we welcome more and more neighbors—of all ages—to our pantry and soup kitchen.

The reality of food insecurity looks different for everyone we serve:

Some of our friends have kitchens with ovens and microwaves.

Others are staying in tents, cooking over a fire pit.

Many are living on the streets or in their cars, eating meals straight out of a cold can or using a microwave at a local gas station when they can’t make it to us for a warm meal.

No matter their situation, everyone deserves a full belly. With food prices so high right now, our pantry shelves are running low, and we need your help to restock!

How you can help today:

Donate an item: We’ve updated our Amazon Wish List with high-need items. (Almost all of these items can also be picked up at your local Dollar Tree!)

Share this post: Spreading the word helps us reach neighbors who want to give—and neighbors who need help.

A Heart Full of Hope ❤️

My heart is so full after the last few weeks. These are the moments that remind us exactly why we do what we do.

Two of our friends moved into their new apartments last week. This week, a single mom and her four children finally moved into a place they can call home.

And tomorrow is a day we will never forget. Our new friend, Mr. Hall, will be moving into his very own apartment after being homeless for five years. We were able to help with his security deposit and a portion of his rent, and as we sat together at my desk, he was in tears. Not tears of sadness, but tears of relief, gratitude, and the realization that after five incredibly difficult years, he finally has a home. I was going to take a picture of his keys. He said nope this is to good to not take a full picture. 😀

We also have two more friends who are expecting to move into their new homes later this month. 🥹❤️

This is what our nonprofit is about. It’s about meeting people where they are, believing in them when life has knocked them down, and helping them take those steps toward stability and independence.

Honestly, this feels better than winning the lottery. Because this isn’t about money—it’s about changing lives.

Every person deserves a safe place to sleep, a door they can lock, and the opportunity for a fresh start.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports our mission and helps us continue serving people experiencing homelessness and struggling in our community. Together, we are showing people that they are not forgotten, they are not alone, and brighter days are possible.

Here’s to new beginnings, second chances, and many more keys being handed to people who desperately need a place to call home.

A Massive Thank You to Our Incredible Community!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who stepped up to support our back-to-school initiative!

To our wonderful supporters who "adopted" a child for back-to-school: Thank you for easing the financial burden and bringing huge smiles to our kids' faces.

To everyone who dropped off items for our school supplies drive: Your generosity helped stock our shelves with everything our students need to succeed.

A special shoutout to the Girl Scouts from Troop 55857 from Palos Hills, Thank you for your amazing energy in coming out and setting up our very own "little school supplies store!"

Because of all of you, we have already been able to help 32 of our smallest friends get fully equipped with all their back-to-school supplies, and we have a few more coming in later this week to pick up!

The beginning of the school year is so crucial for these children, and your support ensures they start the year off confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

Thank you for making such a big difference in the lives of our little friends!

Hello Everyone

Remember the sweet single mom and her four kids who lost their rental home last September due to severe water damage and roof collapse? After 11 long months of bouncing between motels and sleeping in their car, they FINALLY have a place to call home!

While we are celebrating this huge milestone, they need our help with two final hurdles to get settled:

1. Save Their Belongings: Their storage unit fees accumulated while they were displaced, and their items will be auctioned off if we can't help them pay the $321 balance.

2. Furnish Their New Home: They lost so much to water damage, and their new apartment has no overhead ceiling lights. We are collecting the following items to make their space livable:

*Lighting & Electrics: Lamps (high priority!), power strips, extension cords

*Kitchen Essentials: Pots and pans, plastic plates & bowls, silverware, kitchen garbage cans.

*Bathroom Needs (x2 bathrooms): Shower curtains & clips, bathroom rugs, tub mats, Toilet Brush and Plunger.

*Cleaning: Vacuum, broom, Cleaning Supplies

*Living Room & Bedroom - Throw Rugs, Curtains (She's going to measure) Pillowcases and Full Size Sheets.

How You Can Help

Donate towards the storage payment: PayPal at www.PayPal.me/almosthomechicago, our website at www.almosthomeChicago.org, or Venmo . Or we would love for you to come in and see the panty and everything we are doing here at Almost Home Chicago because of your support.

Donate items: Drop off or ship to location is 9230 S Pulaski Rd Oak Lawn, Back Door. Monday 12:30-7 and Tuesday Thru Friday 12:30-5 or comment below if you have any of these items to spare!

Thank you all for being the hands and feet of our community. Let’s help this family turn this new apartment into a cozy, welcoming home!
