The Warrior Ride

The Warrior Ride The Warrior Ride is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in Oak Island, North Carolina with a mission of rehabilitation for our injured war heroes.

The Warrior Ride vision is to provide our nation's injured service members the opportunity to find their own starting line for a new future and to bring community support and awareness of the sacrifice our heroes make in their effort to keep freedom free and to offer communities the opportunity to thank our nations heroes.

Robert "Bob" Racine was founder ofThe Warrior Ride, has passed away Friday. He was a active member of the VFW and American Legion. He spent 12 years in the Marines and retiring with 12 more years in the Army.

He will be dearly missed, but has a staff that is dedicated to carrying on his dream of being able to help his brother and sisters at arms. Steve Keifer has taken the role of President and CEO of the organization.

There will be a bicycle ride and memorial open to all cyclists (veteran or not) on Oak Island, NC at 9 AM on Feburary 23, 2019. The ride will start at the TWR office (address below). If you do not wish to ride, you can help with a USA flag on the route to Veterans Park to show support.

The remaking rides this year will still go on in his memory.

His family has asked in lieu of flowers, to make donation to the organizations website.
Donations can be made at: www.TheWarriorRide.org or

With a heavy heart, I am saddened to report that our friend and founder of The Warrior Ride, Bob Racine, has passed away. Retired from the Army and the Marines, Bob was committed to The Warrior Ride and helping his fellow veterans and active military.

Row after row of boots, some with pictures of the thousands of service members who died in battle, covered a recreation field at the Fayetteville, N.C. installation.

o·ver·come
ˌōvərˈkəm/

- succeed in dealing with (a problem or difficulty).
synonyms: get the better of, prevail over, control, get/bring under control, master, conquer, defeat, beat;
- defeat (an opponent); prevail.
synonyms: defeat, beat, conquer, trounce, thrash, rout, vanquish, overwhelm, overpower, get the better of, triumph over, prevail over, win over/against, outdo, outclass, worst, crush;

People use words like tenacity, persevere, prevail, conquer...but very few embody what those words stand for like Josh Sommers. I know this because despite his combat injury that led to multiple strokes, having a profound affect on his motor control, his can do attitude is stronger than ever. I know this because I have ridden beside him while he cranked out 15 miles on a trike recumbent, under his own power, with only his right arm to steer and limited mobility and control of his left arm and legs. I know this because him completing that ride under just those circumstances was a feat unto itself, but to further laugh in the face of adversity, Josh is blind.
That is only one of many stories of how Josh has pushed beyond and blatantly defied boundaries. Always with his steadfast and devoted mother and point of light, Lisa Hopkins at his side. And always with a devilish grin on his face!
Its been an absolute honor to have Josh and Lisa attend The Warrior Ride events and looking forward to more opportunities to ignore limitations alongside them!

Josh Sommers is on a journey to be able to walk again.

Nothing gets me more stoked than having TWR alumni out here competing at the Atlantic Region Trials at Ft. Benning. Could not be more proud of the work Henao and Bigham put in on their 30k time trial this morning! We were up to 80 degrees racing around Lawson Airfield today but these guys pushed hard and put up some solid results! Team TWR rock steady!
