The feeling of coming back home🥰

Friends reunited on the beaches of Base Camp for the return of the sixth and final session of canoe trips this summer. Saunas, hugs, sharing trail stories and finds, and relaxing after a hard week’s worth of paddling and portaging is in order!

It’s Middle School Session! The first few days with this group have been full of Laketrails traditions, silly skits, and canoe trip preparations. We sent five groups on trail to Mason & Reid, Partridge, the Painted Rock Channel, O’Dell, and Question Lakes. Everyone checked in at Canadian Customs and went on their ways! 🛶

🎶🛶Now wind and rough waters don’t phase me no more🎶🌊

The winds from the west propelled our Fourth Session trips back into Base Camp after five days on trail! How fun it is to see confident paddlers command their boat from the bow and stern as the waves crest and fall behind them. And, there’s the delight of reuniting with friends on the beach to share stories of all that transpired on trail. The spirit of Laketrails is alive and well!

The sendoff of all our canoe trips is always an exciting,high energy morning. Our guides prepped this session’s trips with last minute packing and route mapping before packing up the canoes to set off for the adventures ahead! 🗺️🛶🏕️ The morning was full of farewell hugs from friends and the promise of more memories and friendships made 💙

Giving a warm welcome to our Session 4 campers! 👋

They joined us at Base Camp a few days ago and were greeted by our guides and camper workers in their finest garb.

We got right to it and planned our trips together. Starting with Trip Skits! Our guides are leading 7 different trips to First Lake, Arrow Lake, Chick Lake, O’Dell Lake, Loon Lake, Brocket Lake, and the Northern Aulneau.

As wildfires and hazardous air quality continue to affect many of those in areas of Northern Minnesota like the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, many have reached out to us to ask how this may be impacting Laketrails.

We feel very fortunate to say that we have clear skies and clean air to breathe these days, as pictured here from photos taken this afternoon. Our current session of campers are safely enjoying a gorgeous week on trail, and we were even blessed with a rain shower yesterday night.

We are devastated to know that many are being evacuated from their homes, and that many other camps like ours have had to pause their operations out of a concern for safety. Our hearts are with all of those who are in that situation. That reality is leaving us extremely thankful that we get to continue to paddle these beautiful waters of Lake of the Woods 💙

Session 3 was small but spirited! It was a hot week on trail, so our campers and guides took plenty of dips in the lake this week. Trips spent six days on trail and traveled to Cranberry Lake, Loon Lake, Hammerhetas Lake, and a circuit through Chick-Rattlesnake-Question-Line and Partridge Lakes!

Recapping the end of session 2!!

Hanging out around Base Camp, catching the sunsets, Rattlin’ Bog, closing campfire skits, Wilderness Awards, and saying so long! to this great batch of campers. What a wonderful session!

Session 2 canoe trips came back in a windy whirlwind of a day! 💨🌊

Paddlers braved big rollers from the south as they navigated down the boat channel, bows bouncing up and down as each crest was cleared. And, two trips outwitted the Big Traverse waves & bushwhacked from Cedar Point and Boy Scout Beach west to Big Rock. Smiles were as big as ever as trips conquered the last stretch home. Friends, hugs, and the bell all waiting to welcome them home!
