🦆 YOUTH HUNT OPPORTUNITY (4) SPOTS AVAILABLE! 🦆
Muddy Duck Waterfowl is looking for four youth hunters to join us on October 24 for a morning hunt at Squaw Creek Outfitters in Mound City, Missouri!
We’ll meet in Mound City that morning. Participants must have waders and all required hunting licenses and permits.
After the morning hunt, we’ll roll up our sleeves and help get a couple of blinds ready for the upcoming season. Please plan to stay for both the hunt and the work afterward. It’s a chance to enjoy a morning outdoors, learn, and lend a hand!

“First Hunt Ready” A series created to make that first hunt the best.

Part 1: “Before Their First Hunt”

Taking a young hunter out for the first time this fall? A little preparation now can make that first morning feel a lot less unfamiliar.

Talk through the morning. Explain the early alarm, the walk to the blind, where they’ll sit, and what happens when birds come in. Give them time to ask questions, even the ones that seem obvious to someone who has hunted for years.

Start with safety before the hunt. Review safe muzzle direction, keeping fingers outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot, and knowing the target and what’s beyond it. Make time for supervised range practice with proper eye and hearing protection.

Try the gear on now. Check boots, layers, and gloves before opening morning. Make sure they can move comfortably, and let them help pack their bag, with a few favorite snacks included.

Take the pressure off. They don’t have to shoot to participate. Let them watch, learn, and ask questions. Be willing to head home when they’ve had enough.

At Muddy Duck Waterfowl, we want that first hunt to be a good introduction, not a test of how much cold, waiting, or pressure a kid can handle.

Hunting season is here, but that doesn’t mean the workouts stop! Muddy Duck Waterfowl is still getting it in while enjoying the Canadian outdoors.

No fancy gym needed, just a few bands, a little effort, and a view that’s hard to beat. Making memories, staying active, and keeping ready for the next hunt… because those decoy bags aren’t getting any lighter! 🦆

🦆 MISSOURI WATERFOWL HUNTERS—THE PRESEASON DRAW IS OPEN!

The Missouri Department of Conservation is accepting applications for the 2026–27 preseason waterfowl reservation draw from September 1 through September 18.

Missouri residents with a Conservation Number may apply for reservations at up to three managed waterfowl hunting areas. Applicants can select a specific date, the first available weekend, the first available day of the week, or the first available day. MDC notes that choosing “First Available Day” generally provides a better chance of receiving a reservation. Draw results are scheduled to be available October 1.

Before submitting your choices, review MDC’s current wetland-area conditions, construction updates, expected habitat conditions, and available hunting positions. 📚 Muddy Duck Waterfowl’s 2026 Clear the List was a success! 🦆

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Muddy Duck Waterfowl was able to fulfill several classroom-supply requests for nine local teachers, providing more than $1,200 in supplies for the upcoming school year!

Teachers often spend their own money to make sure their students have what they need. We are proud to help ease some of that burden and support the educators who make such a difference in our local communities every day.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our campaign, and helped make this possible. Your support put needed supplies directly into local classrooms and helped nine teachers start the school year with a little extra encouragement.

To all of our teachers and students, we wish you a safe, successful, and outstanding school year!
