Due to the government shutdown, effective November 1, SNAP (food stamps) benefits will not be available to 1.9 million Illinoisans who rely on SNAP to buy groceries.

NOTE: Leftover benefits from prior months can still be used. WIC benefits are not disrupted and will be issued in November.

· SNAP customers should visit snapfederalimpact.illinois.gov for the most up-to-date information.
· Visit https://www.chicagosfoodbank.org/find-food-2/ or call (773) 247-3663 to find a food pantry or food distribution site near you.
· Dial 2-1-1 for support with food assistance, utility assistance, and other social service supports.
· Seniors in suburban Cook County can visit the Age Options’ website at https://www.ageoptions.org/ or call (800) 699-9043 for meal delivery and other food resources.

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has developed a SNAP Partner Toolkit. Note that IDHS will continue to process SNAP applications and redeterminations and people should receive any benefits they missed when SNAP funding resumes.

If you have the capacity and are looking for ways to support your neighbors, consider volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository or one of their food access partners. Visit volunteers.chicagosfoodbank.org to learn more.

SNAP Rules are Changing Effective December 1, 2025

Although the November disruption to SNAP is due to the government shut-down, new SNAP eligibility and work requirements go into effect on December 1,2025. For more information about the new requirements and flyers in multiple languages see: snapfederalimpact.illinois.gov.

In the past, when the government shut down, Congress fixed the problem before families missed their benefits. But this time, the U.S. government is halting SNAP benefit payments nationwide, for the first time in the program's 60+ year history.

🛑 Crisis response work is NOT safe by default.
And we need to stop pretending it is.

Crisis workers are sent into homes, neighborhoods, and volatile environments with little more than a clipboard, a phone, and good intentions.

That’s not protection. That’s negligence.

Here are 5 safety tips every crisis responder should know:

1️⃣ Always share your location with someone who will actually follow up.
2️⃣ Set a check-in timer—and don’t skip it.
3️⃣ Scan the environment before exiting your vehicle.
4️⃣ Trust your gut. If it feels off, it probably is.
5️⃣ Keep an exit route. Always know how to get out—fast.

This isn’t fear-based. It’s survival-informed.

At The Advocacy Blueprint, we train crisis teams to stay safe and effective—because showing up shouldn’t mean putting your life on the line.

Don’t Call Me to Sit at a Broken Table”

✊🏾 Don’t invite me to sit at a table that’s already broken.
I’m not here to join dysfunction. I’m here to restructure it.

The Advocacy Blueprint isn’t about saving face. We’re about saving systems.

▪ We build real safety.
▪ We train teams for the field.
▪ We call leaders into the room — even when it’s uncomfortable.

We don’t fix what’s performative.
We rebuild what’s worth saving.

Let’s take this month to check in—with ourselves and each other. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Whether you’re prioritizing rest, seeking therapy, supporting a loved one, or simply taking things one day at a time, you’re doing the work—and that matters.

Let’s break the stigma, spark conversations, and promote healing.

You are not alone. Your mind matters.
