The Niantic Park Playground Project, or NPPP’s, mission is to create a community-built playground in Niantic Park. In collaboration with the Oak Bluffs Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of Oak Bluffs, the NPPP committee is working to address all needs of the park (equipment, walkways, and landscaping), and to best serve the children. The Community Preservation Act, or CPA, funding de
signated $46,000 for the playground equipment and ground cover to improve the current conditions of the playground. Unfortunately, this would only replace the existing equipment, but the NPPP had bigger dreams. The Island community immediately responded by generously donating funds and materials to the fundraising campaign. This new plan will create a safe, engaging Niantic Park Playground that will be fully accessible for all members of the community. It will incorporate play equipment into its historic neighborhood that aesthetically reflects the character and charm of Oak Bluffs. Construction on the rest of Niantic Park project (e.g., basketball courts, shed, landscaping) has begun. On October 11-14, 2015 the community will be asked to join forces with Leathers, & Associates to build a Niantic Park Playground that will bring many happy children and families to our park.
