Members of the O'Fallon Garden Club spent a wonderful morning preparing for future Saturday morning flower sales at the Community Garden. Our own Joy Paeth demonstrated the principles of flower arranging and invited members to create their own spring bouquets from flowers grown in the garden's flower beds. Watch for announcements of when flower sales will be offered, and please stop by to purchase your own bouquet while supporting the garden club's projects. It was a beautiful morning enjoying the fresh air, being with friends, and learning new skills.

The O'Fallon Garden Club is excited to announce a photo contest for area youth. There will be three amazing prizes for photos that highlight "My Home-Grown America," celebrating local gardens and US heritage as we come together to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

Bob Winkler, the O'Fallon Garden Club's community vegetable garden chairperson, said, "Let us harvest the lettuce beds!" ....and what a harvest it was! The food pantry received an abundant supply of fresh lettuce this week to share. WOW! Doesn't it look wonderful? Our dedicated volunteers have been harvesting the early spring crops and have also planted many of the summer crops, including tomatoes, beans, potatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers.

Saturday, May 9, was a workday at the O'Fallon Community Garden, and so much work was accomplished. We want to thank the O'Fallon High School Student Council, the ROTC group, and their sponsors for all the assistance they offered, along with the garden club members, to spread mulch, compost, paint, plant, and w**d! The garden looks terrific, and we are so thankful for all the wonderful assistance they contributed. What a delightful group of young adults! O'Fallon can be proud of our youth who helped with this community project!

Does the spring weather make you want to plant a garden? Well, we have good news! A raised garden plot has just become available for rent at the community garden on State Street. If you are interested in growing some of your own vegetables (think big, juicy tomatoes, fresh green beans, onions, cucumbers, and/or zucchini or maybe beautiful flowers for a fresh cut bouquet), then you will want to act quickly! Raised garden bed #2 in the community garden is available for rent and ready to be planted. It's all cleaned out and ready to go. For more information and to reserve the bed, contact Debbi DiMonge from the O'Fallon Parks and Rec Department at [email protected]

Act now...this opportunity won't last long!

The O'Fallon Garden Club is having a busy month. First, a friendly reminder that our annual plant sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 8:30 - 12:00. You won't want to miss this event! There are pictures below of some of the items that will be in our garden shop, in addition to all the healthy plants that will be suitable for sunny and/or shady locations. Stay tuned for pictures of the lovely potted plants that will also be available. There will be something for everyone!

The storms of 2025 played havoc with our lovely gazebo, necessitating its re-staining this spring. Schneider painting did a lovely job. Thank you, Bobby and crew! The gazebo is a beautiful addition to the community garden, and we are so proud of it! It is available for rental through the park district if you have an event that would be appropriate in a garden setting.

We want to thank our youth coordinator, Holly Whiteman, along with Yolandea Wood, who represented the garden club at the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day. Youth who attended were invited to taste honey from our very own bees and to plant a flower seed of their choosing to take home with them. Keep an eye out for other OGC youth activities in the coming months.

And finally, a few pictures of the harvest from the community garden of the fresh produce that was on its way to the food pantry this week. Isn't it lovely!

Please feel free to share with your friends!

What a difference a day makes (when it brings much-needed rain!)
Our wonderful volunteers showed up to a slightly muddy garden on Thursday morning but were delighted with the overnight rainfall! You could almost hear the plants growing. They took this opportunity to do some much-needed pruning, w**ding, and maintenance, as well as to harvest our first 2026 garden crop: radishes! They were picture-perfect and, after a careful rinse, were on their way to the community food pantry.
