Missouri Lost & Found Paws is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on reuniting lost and found pets across the State of Missouri, using the power of social media. Our mission includes developing a networked community that fosters a strong commitment to those with lost pets as well as found pets. Missouri Lost & Found Paws was founded in August, 2011. We are a social media based organization

that is focused on reuniting lost and found pets in the greater St Louis metropolitan area. We reach out to owners of lost pets to help share tips and tricks for getting the word out about lost pets, as well as how to search for lost pets. We also reach out to those who have found lost animals in the area. We are a grass roots effort with a simple mission: to get lost and found pets home!

Storms are rolling in late tonight. As the storm will be scattered in terms of hail and whatnot, please be sure to check your fence before letting your dog outside tonight or tomorrow morning.

If you have to let your dog out tonight, be mindful that the storms may be noisy and scary. Even the best doggos can get scared. And when something is scary, doggos will do all they can to escape it such as digging under the fence or even jumping it.

If you have your windows open tonight, be mindful for your kitty's security, or a dog poking the screen out in fear.

Yesterday was a powerful example of what intentional, cross-functional collaboration can achieve.

We brought together partners from St Louis County public health, animal control, multiple police departments, and a local foundation, each with a distinct role, but all aligned around a shared goal: improving how our communities respond when pets go missing.

Moments like this don’t happen by accident. They require coordination, trust-building, and a shared understanding of outcomes across very different organizations.

I had the opportunity to lead training with local officers on microchip scanning and, more importantly, connect the “why” behind the process. i shared how a simple action of supporting residents who have found a pet can directly impact whether a pet enters the shelter system or is reunited with their family the same day.

What stood out most was how quickly alignment can happen when people understand both their role and the broader mission.

This is the kind of work I’m deeply passionate about: bringing together diverse stakeholders, translating complexity into actionable steps, and driving outcomes that make a measurable difference in our communities.

And if there’s one takeaway I’d share, it’s this:

Step outside your comfort zone.
Find something that matters deeply to you.
And get involved.
You don’t have to have all the answers to make an impact. Sometimes, all it takes is showing up, contributing your piece, and being willing to work alongside others.

That’s where real change begins. 🐾

Thank you Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center, St. Louis County Department of Public Health, Friends of the St. Louis County Animal Shelter Foundation, Jennings Police Dept, Black Jack Police Department, Ballwin Police Department and our incredible team at Missouri Lost & Found Paws: Tina Roe, Bev Kreinbrook, Tracy Lynn, Jenny Edwards and Linda Hinch.

Please include your pets in your evacuation plans today. If you are in the high risk areas, be sure to have water, water bowls and pet food on hand in the basement. I threw things into a recyclable shopping bag and brought them down to the basement.
Have multiple pets? Go downstairs early. You don't want to find yourself in a panic moment trying to grab frightened pets.

As and when the storm hits, pause to check your fence and outdoors before letting your dog outside.

Keep an extra eye on pets today. And let's pray for safety for all the lost pets across our community. This will be a terrifying event for them :( .

And if you lose a pet or find a pet, post ASAP here.

This morning I’m curled up on my sofa, phone in hand, ordering new collars and fresh ID tags for my big boys… and replacing their old ones (4–6 years old 😳—time flies!).

One of my sweet pups is deaf, so his tag always says “I AM DEAF” just in case someone finds him and needs to know how to approach him safely. 💙

And it hit me… this is one of those small things we all mean to do, but life gets busy. So here’s your gentle Sunday nudge:

Take a peek at your furry bestie next to you 🐶
Give them a little extra love...and then take 5 minutes to make sure they’re protected too.

✨ Quick Pet Safety Check:
• Update or replace worn ID tags
• Make sure your phone number is current
• Add a contact in your phone for each pet with:
– Microchip ID number
– Microchip company
– Company phone number
• Log into your microchip account and confirm everything is registered + up to date

Accidents happen. Gates get left open. Loud noises scare even the bravest pups.

Let’s give our babies the very best chance of finding their way back home. 🏡💙

I am a week behind on posting this! Please join me in welcoming S&R Animal Control. LLC to the Missouri Lost & Found Paws family! Caleb is the new owner of S&R. He is working his tail off to try and get found pets home. If owners are not found, he is collaborating with local rescues to get them transferred! He has a heart of compassion and is working very hard to change the future of pets in his care.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of the journey, Caleb!

Sharing.

This is a difficult conversation, and we know times are especially challenging right now.

We often hear, and see on rehoming sites - “I don’t have enough time” and “They deserve more space,”. We understand—wanting the best for your pet can be overwhelming.

Here’s the truth: your pet doesn’t need perfect, they just need you. Most pets just want love, routine, and a safe, caring home. That bond you share matters far more than hours in a day or the size of a yard.

Most families work long days.
Most pets don’t have endless space to roam.
There is no such thing as a perfect home - just one where they are safe, loved, and part of the family.

Rehoming can be an incredibly difficult decision, and sometimes it truly is the right one. But often, it comes from a place of worry that you’re not doing enough—when in many cases, your pet is already happy simply being with you.

Before making the difficult decision to surrender, please reach out. We can provide food, tethers, dog houses and other supplies along with training resources - whatever it takes to help your pet stay in the home they already know and love. ❤️

⚠️ Pet Safety Reminder for Windy & Stormy Weather

Please help us spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors. Just a few minutes of preventative action can help keep pets safe and prevent them from becoming lost during windy or stormy weather like we’re expecting today.

Before letting your dog outside, take a quick safety check:

🐾 Inspect your fence and gates. Strong winds can loosen latches, push gates open, or knock down weak fence panels. Take a moment to walk the perimeter before letting your pup out.

🐾 Secure doors and windows. Sudden weather changes can startle even the calmest pets. Loud wind, thunder, or debris can cause animals to panic and bolt if an opening is available.

🐾 Watch for drafty doors. If drafts cause interior doors to swing open, consider keeping the garage door closed. That way, if a door blows open, your pet is still safely contained inside the garage instead of escaping outdoors.

🐾 Check ID tags and microchips. Make sure your pet’s collar is on and ID tags are readable. If the unexpected happens, updated contact information greatly increases the chances of a quick reunion.

🐾 Bring pets inside during severe weather. Even well-trained dogs can become frightened by sudden gusts, falling branches, or thunder.

🐾 Senior pets may react differently. As pets age, changes in hearing, vision, and confidence can make them more easily startled than they were in the past.

A few minutes of preparation today can prevent hours, days, or even weeks of heartbreak.

Let’s work together to keep pets safe. 🐾

Did you know:

If you have a pacemaker, you can put it in your Will to have your pacemaker donated to a dog in need after you pass. Pacemakers cannot be donated to another human, but they can be donated to dogs with cardiac issues who would depend on it to stay alive.

You can have the pacemaker brought to a vet of your choice. So many of those get thrown away and dogs die because people don't know they can do this. It even saves the dog's owner the cost of the actual pacemaker which sometimes means the difference in being able to afford lifesaving treatment or not.
