Freidom

Freidom Freidom provides social an emotional support to individuals who were raised in insular religious com Welcome to Freidom! Most events are adults-only.

Freidom is a community for individuals from formerly orthodox-Jewish backgrounds who meet on a regular basis for good food, thoughtful conversation, and to make new friends. Most of us were raised with strong attachments to orthodox-Jewish observance, but, while we are each on our own journey, now live mostly secular lives. Our past unites us, and we take from it what we still find meaningful, but

we otherwise live simply as members of the world community. The Freidom community is a friendly bunch and always eager to meet new people who are on the Frei journey, whether formerly orthodox or just exploring. So feel free to request to join our community, and we'll let you know if you seem to be a fit. Freidom hosts social events throughout North America, with a focus on NYC, Rockland County, North and South Jersey. Additional NA regional areas include: Baltimore/DC, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, South Florida, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Toronto. Our social events include, dining out, potluck dinners, movies, musical performances, museums, live theater, outdoor activities, cultural events, and anything else our members are interested in. We're always looking for new experiences, so suggestions are welcome and encouraged. If you have questions, kindly email us at [email protected]. Note: While there is no fee to join our organization, we ask that you contribute $1 per virtual event and $2 for in-person events (for events you choose to attend) which goes towards covering Freidom's operation cost. You must be a minimum of eighteen years of age to join our events. Some events are kid-friendly. Unless explicitly specified, events are adults-only. "Frei" is a term for a formerly Orthodox Jew. ("OTD" is a term for Off the Derekh-- or off the path of orthodox-Jewish observance). Screening process to protect Freidom members' identity:
To attend Freidom events, members must be vetted beforehand by a Freidom staff person over a Zoom video call or in-person. Request a vetting member-intake meeting at freidom.org/join

September 13, 2023:

Statement of the Freidom Board of Directors in light of recent public comments made by Footsteps:

Freidom cannot speak directly to the nature of complaints raised by Footsteps because they have not shared any details with us.

As per Freidom policy, every allegation brought to our attention is accelerated and handled directly by our board of directors.

There are currently no unaddressed complaints that Freidom is aware of.

Freidom and Footsteps have different missions, different member bodies, and different safety protocols in place to protect them.

Part of Freidom’s mission is to educate our more insular members and help them integrate into mainstream society, while taking into consideration the safety of all members.

Member safety always has been and remains our highest priority. If anyone has information regarding the safety of our members, we urge them to report it to any member of Freidom staff or its board of directors.

If any information is brought to Freidom’s attention, we will, of course, launch a thorough investigation. If there are any findings that we can share without violating member confidentiality, we will do so as per our policy.

We look forward to continuing to serve our members with the highest level of dedication and excellence.

Freidom Book Club: 'The Vanishing Half' - Zoom

Join the Freidom community for a book club reading followed by a Zoom discussion together with other Freithinkers.

More about the book:
[Winner for Best Historical Fiction (2020)]
The Vignes twin sisters will always be identical. But after growing up together in a small, southern black community and running away at age sixteen, it's not just the shape of their daily lives that is different as adults, it's everything: their families, their communities, their racial identities. Many years later, one sister lives with her black daughter in the same southern town she once tried to escape. The other passes for white, and her white husband knows nothing of her past. Still, even separated by so many miles and just as many lies, the fates of the twins remain intertwined. What will happen to the next generation, when their own daughters' storylines intersect?
Weaving together multiple strands and generations of this family, from the Deep South to California, from the 1950s to the 1990s, Brit Bennett produces a story that is at once a riveting, emotional family story and a brilliant exploration of the American history of passing. Looking well beyond issues of race, The Vanishing Half considers the lasting influence of the past as it shapes a person's decisions, desires, and expectations, and explores some of the multiple reasons and realms in which people sometimes feel pulled to live as something other than their origins (Goodreads).

Freidom: FREE Tickets: Demolition Derby at The Sussex County Fairgrounds - In-Person

Freidom secured free ticket to the Demolition Derby.
Join the Freidom community for an evening of entertainment as we experience the excitement of the Demolition Derby at The Sussex County Fairgrounds, together with other Freithinkers.

What's a Demolition Derby?
Demolition derby are usually presented at county fairs and national events. While rules vary from event to event, the typical demolition derby event consists of five or more drivers competing by deliberately ramming their vehicles into one another. The last driver whose vehicle is still operational is awarded the victory. Demolition derbies originated in the United States and quickly spread to other Western nations. For example, Australia's first demolition derby took place in January 1963. In the UK and parts of Europe, demolition derbies (sometimes called "destruction derbies") are often held at the end of a full day of banger racing (Wiki).

Freidom will meet at 6:30p. The Fairground opens at 10:00a and participants are welcome to show anytime during the day to take advantage of other activities.
(GA ticket not included, $10)
