Mayor John V. Kelly, III, the Board of Commissioners
and the Nutley Veterans Council invite all to the
105th Annual Nutley Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Events – Rain or Shine!

Mayor John V. Kelly, III, and the Board of Commissioners in partnership with the Nutley Veterans Council invite all to attend the Township’s 105th Annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade will be held on Monday, May 25, 2026, rain or shine. The Nutley War Memorial Remembrance Ceremony will start at 7:30am at the VFW Post 493. Following the Remembrance Ceremony, the Township will gather to honor Nutley’s fallen firefighters at the Public Safety Building at 10:30am. The Memorial Day Parade opening ceremony and welcome will begin at 10:45 at the Park Oval immediately followed by the parade at 11:00am.

“Memorial Day is not a day of mourning but a day of remembrance and thanks,” Mayor Kelly says. “It’s a day where we remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice and give thanks to those who gave everything so that we can continue to live in freedom and have everything we would ever want.”

The parade route is the same as in previous years, beginning on Chestnut Street leading up to Passaic Avenue across to Centre Street and on to Franklin Avenue. The reviewing stage will be located in front of John H. Walker Middle School. It is with great pleasure that we announce this year’s Grand Marshal, John Hoadley, Jr. our Veteran of the Year, Henry Del Toasto, and our first Patriot of the year Annette Arocho-Bautista. Reverend Eugene J. Field will lead the ceremony with the invocation prayer.
As always, all active military personnel and their families are invited and encouraged to participate in the parade. We invite all retired and/or inactive military personnel to join us on the parade route as well.

Nutley’s Memorial Day Weekend activities will kick off on Saturday, May 23, with the Nutley Historical Society’s “A Walk in the Park.” Museum director John Simko will lead the tour, which begins at 10:00 a.m. in Memorial Park at the WWI monument near the train trestle. The tour will travel along the Yantacaw River as Mr. Simko shares its role in Nutley’s history as a source for early industry, an inspiration for world-renowned artists, a symbol of civic pride, an important boundary marker, and a fitting memorial to our war veterans.

“A Walk in the Park” is scheduled to end at 11:30 at Nutley’s first brick schoolhouse (now the Nutley Historical Society and Museum). The museum will be open to the public, and tour-related items from the museum’s archives will be on display. Please join us at the Nutley Museum (65 Church Street) at 11:30 Sunday morning, even if you are not part of the tour.

“A Walk in the Park” is free; however, the tour is limited to 15 people and requires registration. To register, email [email protected] or call 973-752-8984 and leave a message with your phone number or e-mail address. Confirmation will be sent out via e-mail, text, or phone.
