For Freya, Pearl, and Janine, the best days are the ones where nothing is expected of them. ❤️

These three sweet senior ladies have been through so much. Now, they get to spend their days grazing, enjoying each other's company, and simply being horses.

They may not have acres and acres of lush pasture, but they have something far more important: a safe place to grow old, where they're loved and cared for, no matter how much time they have left.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give an animal is the freedom to just live. ❤️

This is why we do what we do at Friends of Lackota.

This is Zoe’s very first scratch… and judging by that reaction, we think she’s officially hooked. 🤣❤️

These little moments may not look like much, but for a rescue horse learning that people can be kind, safe, and trustworthy, they mean everything.

Every scratch, every calm interaction, and every positive experience is another step forward for this sweet girl. 🐴❤️

Zoe has officially discovered the magic of scratches… next stop: halter training! We have a feeling she’s going to be keeping us on our toes. 😂

We’re so proud of her progress and can’t wait to watch her confidence continue to grow.

If you’ve been following Friends of Lackota for a while, you’ve probably met Mr. Moo. Usually when he’s somewhere he’s not supposed to be. 😂

But there’s a story behind our resident escape artist. In this video, Thom shares a little about Mr. Moo’s life, how he came to Friends of Lackota, and the cow behind all of those adventures we’ve grown to love.

He may keep everyone on their toes, but life at Lackota simply wouldn’t be the same without him. ❤️

Sometimes the sweetest moments at Friends of Lackota are the simplest ones. ❤️

A little time with the minis, a tiny kiss on the nose, and one toddler who decided he'd had quite enough animal bonding for the day. 😂

We love seeing little ones have the chance to meet the animals, especially when the minis are just as happy to soak up the attention.

Although apparently not everyone was equally impressed.

It’s that time of year again where we are ramping up for our annual Holiday online silent auction. During this time we could really use some help from business to make the fundraiser a success. We are collecting donations in terms of items to be added to our auction - gift cards, gift certificates, gift baskets, tangible items, service or experiences.

If your business would be so kind as to donate to our cause we would love to get in touch. If you don’t have a business but know of one that might donate we would love to connect with them too. Since our fundraiser is online it reaches households across many states so we would love to add even national companies to our list of silent auction sponsors.
