Congregation of Every 1

Congregation of Every 1 Providing supplies needed to live on the streets to the homeless citizens of Detroit since 2013 A 501c3 charitable organization. Jeff Hocking
President & Founder

The Congregation of Every 1 was founded as a congregation of people, not worshipers or followers, simply of individuals seeking a sense of community and a more efficient and direct means to help others. We are a diverse group of thoughtful, insightful and helpful people joined together in a supportive community not rooted in nor tied to any specific religious dogma. We endeavor to promote self-con

fidence, self-esteem and give a voice to those who normally stand alone. We strive to use our own life experiences to help our friends, members and strangers in need throughout the community and country. We promote charity, kindness and personal strength, without the need or the promise of any spiritual reward. A congregation rooted in the reality that life in itself is amazing and embedded in friendship and growth of the individual and our community.

We are done delivering brand new winter coats, gloves, scarves, knit hats, thermal underwear, thermal socks, hand warmers and food to the homeless. Four hours of driving around the neighborhoods and quite literally handing them out one at a time to the homeless. No big groups, no houses filled with 30 people, we searched and found the one-off’s, which is what I always prefer to do. Some people were so grateful they had tears in their eyes, many of them put on the hats and coats immediately. I love Detroiters and love that all of you help us continue to do this, month after month, for nearly 13 years now. (No pics since it was just myself and my cousin Michael on this delivery).

Yes we did just deliver 100 SurvivalPaks and 100 warm winter coats last weekend, but we will also be doing an emergency mini-delivery of cold weather supplies to the homeless tomorrow afternoon before the brutal weather hits this weekend.

The reality is that is was bitter cold out today during the The Congregation of Every 1 delivery. We got to retreat to a warm van, but even the 10 or 15 minute we spent outside of the van caused our hands to burn and sting from the cold. We came upon a dozen houses in Del Ray with no heat or utilities. We found dozens of people taking shelter inside of a bus station. We met a man with a section of his skull removed, which caused his head to seem to have a massive "dent" in it. We found many dogs, outside, that we had Milk Bones for. We met a man in a wheel chair in his seventies with everything he owned hanging off of that wheel chair. Others told us they were hoping we'd come back to them (we've provided SurvivalPaks to them in the past). The main thing we learned was the coats, the brand new, super warm, puffer coats, we invaluable. We had people take off the insufficient coats they had on, and put on these new, warm coats the moment we handed them to them. We did have one man in a walker, take off his existing coat, try on our new coat, and tell us to keep the new coat and give it to someone who really needs it (way more empathy than so many people I've met who live in actual houses). It's only going to get colder this week, hopefully the coats, and winter hats, and scarves, and gloves and handwarmers we gave out today help a little. THANK YOU to everyone who helps us do this, month after month, for the past 13 years.
