Rotary International Global Grant # 25407: Clean Water Ecuador/Agua Limpia Ecuador. The Rotary Clubs of Novi (USA), Milan (USA), and Chatham Sunrise (CAN) were awarded a Future Vision Global Grant to provide clean water to 10 rural Ecuadorian communities. A total of 654 Bio-Sand filters were installed in 634 households and 20 Schools. Freesia Abad Castro de Serrano District 4400 Governor, Gary Sobotta of Novi ,Krista Sobotta of Milwaukee and Peter Tanner of Chatham inspected the placement of the last 180 filters and examined a community with filters more than 3 years old. They traveled to Cuenca to meet with the RC Cuenca Tomebamba and the University of Cuenca who are monitoring the filters.

Novi Rotarians Gary Sobotta and Bryan Berent recently visited the Parroquia of Guanazan, Ecuador to review the management of Rotary Club of Novi Bio-Sand Water filter project. Under the management of the Rotary Club of Zaruma, Ecuador, Bio-Sand water filters have been placed in homes of 224 families who are without any access to clean and safe water. In February, 2012, Gary Sobotta led a team of certified technicians, Paul Earwaker (UK) and Eva Manzano (Spain) of the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, Erica Gwynn Former Rotary Ambassador Scholar of Farmington Hills, MI, Lindsay Nicoson of the Ann Arbor Rotoract, to conduct a workshop on the construction of bio-sand water filters.

The parish of Guanazán under the stewardship of the Zaruma RC has manufactured 220 bio-sand water filter and hope to have finished the distribution to the participants by the end of July. The parish of Sigsig under the stewardship of the Gualaceo RC has manufactured 200 bio-sand water filter hope to have finished the distribution to the participants by the end of September.

The Huron High School Interact club has raised over $1500.00 for the Agua Limpia Ecuador project through a series of fundraisers over the past 8 months to purchase additional biosand filters and help fund monitoring and evaluation efforts. THANK YOU HURON HIGH INTERACT CLUB!

In addition, this Club has been instrumental in designing digital pictograms to be used in the field for health and hygiene education. Great work!

El Club de Interact de Huron High School ha recaudado fondos de $1500 USD para el proyecto de Agua Limpia por los ultimos 8 meses. Usaran el dinero ayudar mas familias en las comunidades comprar un filtro de bioarena y apoyar los esfuerzos para monitorear y evaluar el proyecto para ser sustantable.
