The ASM Materials Education Foundation provides for the advancement of scientific and engineering knowledge through its support of education and research.

Supported by individual contributions, the ASM Materials Education Foundation and ASM International collaborate to provide exciting opportunities for young people, encouraging them to pursue careers in materials, science and engineering. rsue careers in materials science and engineering. The ASM Materials Education Foundation programs are an investment in the future of materials science and engineering. Programs such as the ASM Materials Camp make a huge impact through in-depth, hands-on demonstrations of what materials engineers do and the high-tech resources that are available to help solve complex problems. It is a great way to get the next generation of engineers and scientists interested and excited about careers in engineering. A recent survey of ASM Materials Camp students shows:

84% of students are enrolled in undergraduate science programs
66% are enrolled in engineering
41% of those students in engineering have selected or are considering materials as a major

We’re excited to welcome back Dr. Erik Mueller as a mentor for this year’s Eisenman Materials Camp taking place this July at ASM Headquarters!
A passionate longtime supporter of the ASM Materials Education Foundation and currently a Materials Research Engineer at the NTSB, Dr. Mueller has inspired hundreds of students through his leadership, mentorship, and dedication to materials science education. A selfless leader and invaluable part of the Eisenman Camp experience, Erik is passionate about educating young people to explore careers in STEM and materials science.

The countdown is on where the first week of June officially kicks off the 2026 ASM Materials Camp season in Tucson, AZ and Denton, TX, marking the start of an incredible summer featuring 50 ASM Materials Camps across the country!
We can’t wait to welcome educators for an exciting week of hands-on learning, industry connections, and real-world materials science experiences that they’ll bring back to their classrooms and students. From metals and polymers to ceramics and composites, these teachers are about to discover innovative ways to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.

Materials communities are built through collaboration.

Our Foundation team recently visited Mr. Cardinal's Polymer Class at Barberton High School alongside friends and partners, including an ASM Materials Camp – Teachers alum from the Berkshire Local School District. The class works closely with Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, giving students valuable insight into the real-world applications of polymer science and manufacturing.

The collaboration between teachers, industry professionals and education partners underscores just how powerful collective effort can be in shaping the next generation.

Just back from NSTA and feeling energized!
We had so many great conversations with educators from across the country. So many teachers shared how much they loved their experience at our ASM Materials Materials Camps over the years, and it was exciting to meet many more who signed up to join us this summer! It’s always inspiring to connect with teachers who are so passionate about bringing materials science into their classrooms and reaching the next generation of innovators.
Grateful for the new connections, the meaningful conversations, and the reminder of how impactful this work truly is. The ASM Foundation is an organization that cares so deeply about supporting educators and students.

This weekend at the Dome was something special.
37 Master Teachers from across the country gathered for our annual Master Teacher Training—preparing to lead 47 ASM Materials Camp-Teacher programs this summer and inspire thousands of students through materials science.
The camaraderie throughout the weekend was incredible. These educators brought talent, dedication, and a shared passion for hands-on learning that truly transforms classrooms, and lives.
We are so grateful for this remarkable community of teacher-leaders who make ASM Materials Camps possible year after year. Their commitment ensures the next generation of innovators is ready to shape the future.

This weekend’s Master Teacher Training at the Dome is one of the most important moments of the year for the ASM Materials Education Foundation.

Each year, our Master Teachers come together to prepare for the summer ahead. They align on curriculum, share best practices, strengthen hands-on activities, and build the collaborative energy that makes ASM Materials Camp-Teacher programs so impactful nationwide.

These 37 dedicated educators will go on to lead 47 camps across the country, reaching fellow teachers who will bring materials science experiences back to their classrooms and ultimately inspire thousands of students.

Master Teacher Training ensures consistency, quality, and excellence across our entire camp network. It is powered by the passion, leadership, and generosity of educators who believe in transforming STEM education through materials science.
