Did you know amateur radio operators support many community events right here in Geauga County? 🚑🏃‍♂️🚜 Members of the Geauga Amateur Radio Association (GARA) and other local ham radio volunteers regularly assist with public-service communications, races, festivals and even The Great Geauga County Fair — and each year, the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day event is their annual opportunity to practice skills, demonstrate equipment and introduce others to the hobby.

Discover what Field Day is all about by joining them at Observatory Park's Cygnus Shelter this Saturday from 3 to 6 PM as they participate in the largest amateur radio event of the year, lasting a full 24 hours! There you'll find ham radio education, live demonstrations, and information about free classes available for those interested in earning an amateur radio license.

You might be surprised by how much science, technology, problem-solving and community service are packed into one hobby. Follow event signs to Cygnus Shelter and come say hello to members of GARA! Learn more at www.geaugaara.org or on Facebook at

📡 CQ! CQ! Calling all curious minds!

This Saturday through Sunday, from 2 PM to 2 PM, the Geauga Amateur Radio Association (GARA) will be transforming Observatory Park's Cygnus Shelter into a bustling amateur radio station as part of the nationwide American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day event. Amateur radio operators across the country will spend 24 hours trying to connect with as many stations as possible while demonstrating the capabilities of ham radio.

Wondering what ham radio is all about? Stop by between 3 and 6 PM to:
✅ See radios, computers and antennas in action
✅ Learn how amateur radio serves communities during events and emergencies
✅ Discover how you can get involved with public services, like volunteering for The Great Geauga Fair and other local events
✅ Talk with licensed operators and even get on the air yourself, if you'd like!

Park visitors may also like to join "Astro-Nat" Chris for his Sky Tonight Planetarium Show from 4 to 5 PM — or stay later for the Nassau Night Sky Viewing program from 9 to 11 PM at the Nassau Astronomical Station next door. The forecast looks great, and Monday will be a full moon, so park visitors should enjoy a lovely night sky after dark. (As always at this time of year, Observatory Park will remain open for night sky viewing till 1 AM.)

Whether you're interested in technology, science, public service or simply trying something new, this is a fascinating opportunity to discover a hobby that connects people around the world. Follow event signs to Cygnus Shelter and come say hello to members of GARA! Learn more at www.geaugaara.org or at on Facebook.
