The Safe and Sober Grad Night program was developed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in 1985 in response to the large majority of graduating seniors who were celebrating their completion of high school with unsupervised parties where alcohol was being provided and consumed. Unfortunately, many of these parties resulted in alcohol related crashes, injuries and deaths. In an effort to decrease
these incidents, the CHP, along with local volunteers and parents, established an awareness campaign to include fundraisers culminating in a safe and sober all night graduation celebration. Novato High School has joined high schools across the country as a Safe and Sober grad night participant for over 20 years. The committee is comprised of volunteer parents from all grade levels to plan, fundraise and implement a fun filled graduation celebration for all Novato High School, Marin Oaks and Nova graduates the night of graduation. Safe and Sober Grad of Novato is a 501 (3) (c) organization and monies raised benefit each class at Novato High School. Any money left over at the end of the year is distributed to the remaining classes to start a fund for that class. All parents - Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class are encouraged to volunteer actively. We need everyone to join in! Volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising, publicity, volunteer coordination, decorations, registration and chaperones the night of the event. It is a great night of safe and inclusive celebration creating lasting memories for the seniors. This year's date is June 10. Come be part of making this a memorable night for our children that you will want to be a part of for years to come.
