Did you know?

CCNB's Zero Waste Crews has been working with the City of Santa Rosa on a storm drain marking project.

To date, they have marked 10,170 storm drains with medallions and assessed over 5K additional storm drains. These medallions serve to inform the public of the waterways they lead into, to ultimately decrease the disposal of contaminating substances. This project also strengthens the city's mapping system.

¿Sabías que...?

Los equipos de Zero Waste de CCNB han estado colaborando con la ciudad de Santa Rosa en un proyecto de señalización de desagües pluviales.

Hasta la fecha, han colocado placas identificativas en 10.170 desagües pluviales y han evaluado más de 5.000 desagües adicionales. Estas placas sirven para informar al público sobre los cursos de agua hacia los que desembocan dichos desagües, con el fin último de reducir el vertido de sustancias contaminantes. Este proyecto también refuerza el sistema de cartografía de la ciudad.

A huge THANK YOU to Congressman Jared Huffman and his team for visiting our crew working at Foothill Regional Park this week. We are grateful for the opportunity to show you how local corpsmembers are preparing for their future careers while helping protect our communities from the effects of climate change. Corpsmember Highlight: Rigo

Rigo is one of CCNB's most reliant safety officers. He is always on top of his tasks and is a great support on the field to his supervisor and a great leader to his fellow corpsmembers. Rigo has the most consistent and longest streak of completed daily vehicle checks getting them done 100% of the time for multiple months in a row. He is also one of the most reliable and skilled sawyers at the San Rafael office and has even taken time in the field to help train newer and less skilled corpsmembers on the tools and the day-to-day field procedures.

It’s been great having Rigo at CCNB, and we hope that he is able to apply what he has learned here to help him excel in whatever he chooses to do next.

Rigo es uno de los responsables de seguridad más confiables de CCNB. Siempre está al tanto de sus tareas, brinda un gran apoyo en el terreno a su supervisor y actúa como un excelente líder para otros corpsmember. Rigo mantiene la racha más larga y constante de inspecciones diarias de vehículos, habiéndolas completado el 100% de las veces durante varios meses consecutivos. También es uno de los operadores de motosierra más hábiles y fiables de la oficina de San Rafael; incluso ha dedicado tiempo en el campo a capacitar a compañeros con menos experiencia en el manejo de herramientas y en los procedimientos operativos diarios.

Ha sido un placer contar con Rigo en CCNB, y esperamos que pueda aplicar lo aprendido aquí para sobresalir en cualquier camino que decida emprender a continuación.

You can bring your e-waste, mattresses, tires, stretchy plastic wrap, cardboard, and beverage containers during our open hours.

We are very grateful for this investment and excited about the opportunities it will bring for the young folks and communities we serve!

We are excited to share Senate Bill 178 (Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review) was signed by Governor Newsom! SB 178 provides a one-time infusion of funding for the local conservation corps to continue leading in projects that protect California’s environment while providing training for local corpsmembers to pursue career opportunities within the recycling, waste management, and environmental services.

Thank you to Senator Durazo (María Elena Durazo) for being a staunch advocate for the local conservation corps and advocating for frontline communities and youth to be considered when enhancing the equity of California’s climate investments. Moreover, we’d like to thank Governor Newsom (Governor Gavin Newsom), Senator Laird (California State Senator John Laird), Senator Reyes (Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes), Assemblymember Gabriel (Asm. Jesse Gabriel), Assemblymember Bennett (Steve Bennett), Assembly Speaker Rivas (Speaker Robert Rivas), and Senate Pro Tem Limón (Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón) for their leadership and support throughout the process.

Are you ready for the Reuse Bazaar next week? Don't miss this once a year event on Saturday, Sept 26th at the Santa Rosa Fairgrounds!

Bring used items you are trying to re-home during drop hours 8 AM – 11 AM, or come to shop for free during the shopping window 12 PM – 3 PM. We will also be working with Conservation Corps North Bay to accept used tires and mattresses to be recycled. Fire resilience projects are still underway in Marin County 💪.

Last week, a crew worked with Novato Fire creating defensible space to help protect neighborhoods that are at high risk of fire. The crew has been mainly removing dead and downed trees and chipping the resulting material twice a week.

The crew has had to work on steep inclines while avoiding wasp nests, ticks, and potential tripping hazards. By removing hazardous fuels near homes and neighborhoods, the crew supports wildfire prevention efforts and long term forest health and protect homes from fire risk.

Continúan los proyectos de resiliencia ante incendios en el condado de Marin 💪.

La semana pasada, una cuadrilla trabajó junto al Departamento de Bomberos de Novato para crear espacios de defensa con el fin de proteger vecindarios en alto riesgo de incendio. El equipo se ha dedicado principalmente a retirar árboles mu***os y caídos, así como a triturar el material resultante dos veces por semana.

La cuadrilla ha tenido que trabajar en pendientes pronunciadas, sorteando nidos de avispas, garrapatas y posibles riesgos de tropiezo. Al eliminar combustibles peligrosos cerca de viviendas y vecindarios, el equipo contribuye a las labores de prevención de incendios forestales y a la salud del bosque a largo plazo, además de proteger los hogares frente al riesgo de incendio.

One of CCNB's floods crews got to participate in a Flight Floods Methods Training provided by the Marin County Flood Control District in collaboration with the California Department of Water Resource last month.

The safety training focused on important methods for preparing for the winter flooding season, as well as emergency response techniques. The training covered proper sand bagging techniques, the construction of diversion walls, muscle walls, and proper “raincoat methods” for erosion control.

El mes pasado, uno de los equipos de control de inundaciones de CCNB participó en una capacitación sobre métodos de respuesta ante inundaciones, impartida por el Distrito de Control de Inundaciones del Condado de Marin en colaboración con el Departamento de Recursos Hídricos de California.

La capacitación en seguridad se centró en métodos clave para prepararse ante la temporada de inundaciones invernales, así como en técnicas de respuesta a emergencias. Se abordaron técnicas adecuadas para la colocación de sacos de arena, la construcción de muros de desviación y muros tipo "Muscle Wall", y los métodos de protección con láminas impermeables (*raincoat methods*) para el control de la erosión.
