A man in his 70s, unhoused and living on the streets of Marin, was finally scheduled for a colonoscopy he hadn't had in 15 years.
His doctor couldn't do it without prep. The prep required a toilet.
He didn't have one.
That's where Kieawnie Clar stepped in β finding a way to get him a motel room for the night. It was the first time he'd been indoors in years.
This is what The Bethany Project Marin is really about.
Not just meals. Not just food bags and clean laundry β though we offer those every Thursday, too. It's about seeing the whole person. The man standing in the cold-food aisle at Safeway trying to cool off on a hot day. The woman discharged from the hospital at 6:30am with a walker, no phone, and nowhere to go. The Navy veteran named Junior, days away from housing, who says:
"With the help that we get here, there's a chance that we get back on our feet."
The Pacific Sun just told our story β and we are deeply grateful. π
But the story isn't finished. 1,090 of our Marin neighbors are unhoused tonight. And every Thursday from 1:30β4pm at Hamilton Community Church in Novato, we show up for them β with hot food, a working shower, clean folded laundry, and something that can't be measured: the feeling that someone sees you.
Kieawnie says it best: "Nobody heals alone."
Here's how YOU can be part of this:
