Sustainable Marin Schools

Sustainable Marin Schools Empowering schools to be self-sustainable through education, resources and direct action.

Our mission is to empower Marin County's K-12 public schools to advance climate action and resilience by building a framework for sustainability, environmental literacy and equity across the education system. We believe that reducing carbon emissions in Marin schools is necessary to reach California's state and Marin County's climate action goals, thereby reducing the worst impacts of climate chan

ge. Sustainable Marin Schools provides the assistance necessary to capitalize on the immense potential that schools have, such as:
- Decreasing food and plastic waste
- Reducing carbon emissions through electrification and energy efficient buildings
- Increasing solar energy production and EV chargers
- Greening campuses by creating native plant habitats, improving water storage systems, and creating outdoor classroom
- Building resilience to extreme weather events to prevent learning loss and improve safety
- Educating a new generation of environmentally literate and empowered global stewards ready to make their mark on a carbon-free future

We envision a future where Marin’s over 30,000 students have the knowledge and skills to create a healthy, safe, and livable future. This new generation of environmentally literate and empowered global citizens will be ready to make their mark on a carbon-free future.

From hosting our first ever district-wide Earth Month competition, to inviting several amazing presentations by our community partners, having countless fun green team activities, engaging with the community through many tabling events, and more, we were able to engage so many people and help make a difference in our schools and community.

Congrats to all our competition winners and thank you to everyone who participated. Let’s keep up the momentum and celebrate the Earth all year long!

We’ve been having a lot of fun (and getting a lot done!) in the Rancho Family Garden over the past couple months. We are creating a space for Rancho families to grow fruits and vegetables so that, together, small hands and big hands can connect with their environment and what it means to grow their own food. We are so excited to see how this garden continues to grow!
