Shakira’s got moves! 💃🏻 She’s 10 months old, under 20 pounds, friendly with people and dogs, and hands-down the best dancer in the shelter.

🚨 Important PSA: Please don't leave venomous animals in the shelter lobby! 🚨

You're probably wondering why we need to post this... Last week, just a few minutes before closing, someone walked through our front door, deposited a sealed screw-lid bucket on the floor of the lobby, and then left without a word.

Thinking it was a pet food donation, a member of our adoptions staff opened the bucket. Seeing a jumble of items at the bottom, they reached in - and luckily pulled their hand back immediately because hidden amongst the debris was a live rattlesnake!

A few important things to note:

👋 If you bring us any animal (but especially a venomous one!), please let a staff member know. We want to help, it's what we're here for! And we don't want to get bitten by a surprise snake, please.

📞 Or better yet, call us! Our Animal Services Officers can safely and humanely remove rattlesnakes from your home or property. Call us at 415-883-4621 and we can dispatch an officer to assist you and properly relocate it to a nearby safe, open space.

🐍 And lastly, we aren't sure how long this snake had been sealed inside, but an unventilated bucket during a heat wave isn't the safest housing for a snake. Luckily, the snake appeared to be in okay condition and our officers were able to release it safely.

Thank you everyone for helping us keep everyone (and every snake) safe! And a big thank you to our Animal Services Officers, who can be reached 24/7 at 415-883-4621. 💚

Junior is the kind of happy-go-lucky dog who makes every room instantly warmer just by walking into it! This handsome, goofy 4-year-old pit mix enjoys the simple things in life: trotting happily around the neighborhood, making new best friends, and showing off his brainpower in training sessions. Thanks to plenty of foster sleepovers, Junior is officially "move-in ready" and completely dialed into the rhythms and routines of a real home.

Junior is a curious dog who just wants to be part of whatever’s going on. Sometimes he gets a teeny bit distracted and needs a loving nudge to stay on task, but with his favorite human steering the ship, he’s an absolute superstar! Junior will thrive in a home that appreciates his affectionate spirit and offers him plenty of quality outdoor time. Bonus: Junior’s adoption fee has been sponsored!

If you'd like to meet Junior, give our adoption desk a call at 415-506-6225.

If you've ever dreamed of having an affectionate, companionable guy who's also twice the size of your average cat, Chuck is here to make that dream come true!

This 2-year-old hunk of love charms everyone he meets. If you stop by to say hello, he'll be there waiting to greet you, rubbing against your legs, purring and soaking up pets in your lap. When he's not gifting you with head bunts, he's playing a wand toy or chasing after his favorite mouse.

Chuck needs a human who can commit to a daily workout regime to keep his mind enriched and get his body back to a fighting weight. He may seem like a big, mellow cat, but he's also a young guy who needs lots of things to do. He would probably loooove a catio! Chuck will be happiest as the only animal in a cat-savvy, adult-only home, where he can be the center of your world (he didn't do well with kids in his previous home).

If you're looking for a big sweetheart to greet you every day with loads of love, come meet Chuck today! Give us a call at 415-506-6225 if you want to make an appointment.

We need rabbit fosters!

We have quite a few rabbits waiting for their spay and neuter surgeries, and they'd certainly appreciate a comfy place to hang out while they wait - preferably a place with fewer barking dogs than our shelter. 😫

We'll provide everything you need to foster! All our rabbits live indoors and will need to be kept indoors in foster; we will provide x-pens for their housing. Even if you've never fostered a bunny before, we can teach you, and we know you'll find it super rewarding! 💘

If you can help us out and house a bunny for a couple weeks (or a little less, or a little more), we'd love to chat with you. Send us an email at [email protected] to learn more or get started!

Some barking good news! 📣 We've teamed up with the amazing Wendy Gold Studios and all proceeds from her stunning dog and cat collection will go back to the shelter animals.

Even more purr-fect? For the first three purchases from the collection, Wendy Gold will hand-customize the artwork to include your own pet, adding your dog or cat directly into the design! 🐱🐶

These unique maps and globes are works of art and the fact that they support the shelter is the cherry on top. 🍒

We were closed on Monday but we'd never forget the weekly adoption slideshow! If you need something sweet to close out your day, here are some of the lucky animals who found their forever homes last week. Thank you to everyone who chose to adopt and not shop! 💖
