What do you get when you bring together more than 300 students, parents, teachers, alumni, siblings, and friends? The BEST GSLS Carnival yet!

From face painting and carnival games to sweet treats, the afternoon was filled with fun. But what made it truly special was the community behind it all. Older students helping younger ones, families reconnecting, alumni returning, and parents and teachers coming together to create something memorable for our kids.

These are the moments that remind us what makes GSLS so special. It's more than a school. It's a place where friendships grow across grade levels, families build lasting connections, and every generation has a place in our community.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, contributed, and joined us. You are what makes GSLS such a special place to grow up!

3… 2… 1… BLAST OFF! Armed with stomp rockets, our 3rd & 4th grade students put their knowledge of the planets to the test in STEM class, aiming their rockets at the Sun and then each planet in order. Along the way, they explored planetary characteristics, gravity, and the science behind rocket flight.

Working with partners, students practiced precision and control, discovering how the force of each stomp affected their rocket's flight. They even experimented with adding weights to see how weight distribution changed their results.

From diagram to design! Our 2nd graders took their study of the human skeletal system off the page and into the STEM lab. After identifying and labeling bones on their skeleton diagrams, students used everyday materials to create their own 3D representations.

The challenge? Figuring out how to translate what they had learned into something they could actually build. Students had to think about where bones belong, how the parts connect, and which materials could best represent their ideas. Testing, adjusting, and problem solving as they worked. It’s one thing to label a skeleton, it’s another to figure out how to build one!

Some of our favorite mornings look like this. This week we held our Blessing of the Animals on both campuses, Elementary and Middle School. Families lined up with dogs, cats, and even a feathered friend, and students who couldn't bring their pets brought photos to be blessed instead.

A special thank you to our 2nd graders, who brought photos of animals at the Marin Humane Society so they could be blessed too, while they wait for their forever homes. 🐾

It's one of those traditions that makes Good Shepherd feel like home.

Fruit parfaits were on the menu today at our after school cooking class!

Our students mixed and baked homemade granola, sliced fruit for the layers, and used the mixer to whip cream before putting their parfaits together.

There was plenty of measuring, slicing, mixing and patience along the way, but the results were DELICIOUS!

It's another installment of our Kindergarten Community Helpers! This week, our students got a behind the scenes look at the people and places that help keep our community safe at the Novato Police Department.

They visited the communications center, explored police cars and motorcycles, peeked into offices throughout the station, and had lots of questions along the way. There’s nothing quite like being five years old and getting to see firsthand how it all works!

After making thank you cards for first responders and meeting Novato firefighters on campus, this was another chance for our Kindergarteners to put real faces, places and experiences to everything they’ve been learning about in the classroom.

A big thank you to the Novato Police Department for taking the time to show our students around and making them feel so welcome!

Fresh corn tortillas, turned into quesadillas, made right here at school!

For Spanish class, our third and fourth graders welcomed school dad Luis Flores of Flores restaurant in Corte Madera into the kitchen. Luis showed students how to make corn tortillas, invited them to try it themselves, and helped turn their work into a delicious snack.

A fun, hands-on way to bring language, culture, and community into the school day.

One of our favorite 4th grade traditions...Cookie Geography! After learning about our state’s geography, students transformed California shaped cookies into colorful maps, using frosting, sprinkles, chocolate chips, brown sugar, and other treats to represent the coastal region, Central Valley, mountains, deserts, and major cities.

It’s a sweet example of the kind of hands on learning that helps lessons stick, with students applying what they’ve learned, working together, getting creative, and having plenty of fun along the way.

GSLS moms...this one’s for you!

Whether you’ve been part of GSLS for years or you’re still learning names at drop off, Mom’s Night Out is a chance to catch up, make a new connection or two, and enjoy a night out together.

We’re especially excited to gather at Greystones Lounge one of Novato’s newest spots, and a special thank you to two of our own GSLS families for helping to make the evening extra special! The Capetanos Family/ Mulberry Street Pizzeria and the LeBaron Family/ .sisters.balloon.boutique for bringing some fun to the celebration!
