based nonprofit organization that empowers orphans and other vulnerable children in Africa by helping them gain access to education, health care and life skills, alleviating poverty for them and their communities. Established in 2009 as a non-profit organization headquartered in the United States, our purpose has been to help African orphans and vulnerable children surmount their challenges and be
come well-educated and contributing members of their communities. The ways in which we do this continue to grow, and we aspire to do even more, more widely, in Kenya, other parts of Africa, and beyond. An immediate goal is to improve overall educational, health and economic conditions in distressed areas of Kenya, and we already have a track record of success. We are helping a growing number of children assemble school fees that are daunting for families of limited means. Three installments of $350, $250 and $200 during each high school year can seem like an unattainable amount, but we are proud to have enabled promising young people to have their chance. In the beginning, our founders were motivated by the personal experiences of our board chair, Robinson Mureithi, who adopted a young orphan, Patrick Wachira, from his home country of Kenya in 1985. Mureithi did not leave behind his desire to help youth in his home region, and was well aware of the need. Immanuel Orphans is the outgrowth of like-minded friends and colleagues in the United States deciding to give back, while honoring their roots and helping fellow Africans. We follow the precept, “Educate and empower.” So far we have made commitments to a core group of young students for whom we provide school fees, uniforms, and other necessities. We believe these investments are an effective way to alleviate poverty and improve overall societal conditions. But we want to do more, for more children - and for that we need additional kind supporters. Our stated mission is:
to create an environment of hope and respect in which orphans and vulnerable children in select communities have opportunities to achieve their full potential to become successful individuals, thereby transforming them into change agents for positive development of their families and communities. To this end, Immanuel Orphans invests funds and other resources secured from well-wishers, funding agencies and other sponsoring organizations, to assist and empower orphans to access education, health care, and skills required in life for them to grow into mature and self-reliant adults. To fulfill our purpose, we need and appreciate contributions from all like-minded organizations and people wishing to bolster the life chances of our sponsored young people, and create healthy, opportunity-rich environments for them. Akula, a 22-year-old who successfully completed high school with our help and is now in university, sums up what our organization has meant to him: “I sincerely thank Immanuel Orphans for making what seemed impossible, possible.” And young Purity, only 15, is even more personal in her thanks: “"Immanuel Orphans is my family. They give me a feeling that there is someone who cares for me." Please reach out to us for more information, to donate, or to otherwise help. Thank you!
