This is just a quick preview of a very comprehensive guide to allyship in light of recent events that diversity council would like to share to help our tri-campus community better understand their role in the black lives matter movement. We would first like to sincerely thank all of the candidates for their participation in the annual Diversity Council debate. All of the campaigns had some valid thoughts regarding issues of diversity and inclusion on this campus, and we appreciate the effort. This year, after much deliberation, we have decided that Diversity Council will not be endorsing any candidate in this election.
As a body, Diversity Council believes allyship constitutes working with and elevating the efforts of marginalized groups, instead of working for them or over them. We also believe that candidates for Student Body President and Vice President should be well informed on issues regarding diversity and inclusion, as it is one of the areas we constantly hear our University falls short on. We also think there should be a holistic approach to ensuring that we are all Notre Dame. We overall felt all of the candidates lacked cohesion with the existing efforts being made for diversity and inclusion initiatives on campus, and that the needs of students in marginalized groups were not assessed thoroughly beforehand.
We wish all of the tickets the best of luck on the election. We would like you all to know that, as a body, Diversity Council is committed to working with any ticket that wins the election to help inform and drive decisions that relate to diversity and inclusion.
