In observance of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, September 29, we have selected some essential portions of Pope Francis’ message for that day, in which Francis explores migration in the context of authentic/integral human development; that is, development of the whole person and of all people together in community. This resource (http://ow.ly/LC7F50wtMo2) includes some suggested questions to guide your personal or communal reflection. Also available in Español, Français, and Português.

On 8 October 2018, a portion of the Sisters’ Regina Assumpta College in Cap Haïtien, Haiti was severely damaged by a bulldozer on the orders of a departmental official, ostensibly to unblock a waste-water canal of the city. The threat of further demolition remains. The Sisters are calling on Haiti’s national government to intervene in this situation on their behalf.

In solidarity with them, the Holy Cross International Justice Office is circulating a petition in support of their requests. Once signatures are gathered, signed petitions will be sent to various government officials in Haiti and beyond. The United States’ “zero tolerance policy” regarding immigrants at its southern border, calls for the prosecution of persons entering the country illegally, including those seeking asylum (American Immigration Lawyers Association, 22 June 2018). Legal and humanitarian experts point out that aspects of this policy are cruel and harmful to children’s wellbeing and violate the right to due process.

We invite you to participate in a united response to these flagrant violations of human rights by signing on to a letter to President Trump (adapted from Amnesty International). https://goo.gl/forms/TGeoSvWnottLdPcb2
