Hey Y’all! True North recently updated its waiver to better meet student needs. For all programs going forward we will need a copy of the new version and that will secure a spot on the trip. You can fill it out online or pick up a copy from the front desk at the schools. We have some great programs coming up in November and hope to see you there!

Some highlights from our week! At Nucla high school, SanMiguel Current contributors receive their magazines in a school pep assembly and students learned how they can contribute writing, art, photography, poetry - and more - to this year’s magazine, the deadline is December 15!

At NORWOOD eighth grade students enjoyed snacks during Mr Pyles class and used the True North space in the tech building to watch a video for their shop class.

Students learned about how they can contribute to the next version of our student magazine, the SanMiguel Current.

It’s homecoming week at NORWOOD and on Thursday night students played games outside and True North sponsored the pizzas.

Because of you, we provided 48 programs and 414 program participations in 2025, opening doors to academic support, outdoor adventures, creative arts, college and career readiness, and scholarships for students pursuing their dreams. A message for teen students at Telluride, Norwood, and Nucla: Submissions are now OPEN for Vol. 4 of True North’s student magazine THE SAN MIGUEL CURRENT. We want to publish YOUR WORK and pay you for it. Any creative project that you’re proud of can be featured including art, photography, poetry, stories, articles, sculpture, and more! Submissions close on DEC. 15th. if you have any questions feel free to reach out to Hudson at True North and hope to see your work!

Our West End Friday Art Program with Ah Haa School for the Arts is Back! 🥳 Students made their own lunch in the culinary kitchen: buttermilk biscuits and strawberry jam from scratch, with bacon, taught by Chef Krista Montalvo. Students then created Pet Pop Art taught by Gaby Febres-Cordero! For some of the students it was their first time Telluride so Destiny took them for a trip on the gondola to enjoy the beautiful fall colors! 🍂 This program is available for free to any middle and high school students in Nucla and Norwood. We usually have a waiting list, so be sure to sign up and turn your waivers in early for the next trip! 🤠

Hey Students! 📣Community service opportunity this coming Saturday in Norwood! Use the QR code to sign up. We are partnering with Norwood School Ski Club and Norwood Park and Rec to run the aid station for the Mountains to the Desert Classic which benefits the Just For Kids Foundation 🩵 We need helpers to hand out water and food to the cyclists from 8-11am. Meet us next to the county Fairgrounds! Students from any school and homeschool are welcome to come help and earn service hours. 🚴🏼‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚴🏻🚴🏼‍♀️🚵🚴🏻🚵‍♂️🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏻

Congratulations to Kyra Redd who was awarded the True North scholarship for demonstrating exceptional work ethic! Kyra graduated from Nucla High School and is now attending Colorado Mesa University, studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography with the goal of eventually becoming an Ultrasound Technician. Kyra said:
“The most meaningful experience I had with True North is the presentations that have been given in my senior seminar class. They were meaningful because they provided a lot of information and made the next steps in life less intimidating and offered a lot of support. True North’s programs helped me feel more confident going into the real world. I am beyond excited to begin this next chapter of my life. I look forward to meeting new people, experiencing new opportunities, and continuing my education. I know achieving my goal of becoming an ultrasound technician will not happen overnight and will require hard work and dedication, but I am committed to seeing it through. I am incredibly grateful for the generosity of this scholarship and the support it will provide as I complete my education and career goals.”

Check out this great Community Service opp‼️🔊 On Saturday, October 3rd from 10am-noon, Join the San Miguel Watershed Coalition, BLM, Telluride Outside, and RIGS for a cleanup of the River Corridor in Placerville. 🦦Meet at Caddis Flats Campground. Light refreshments provided. Follow the link in profile for full details and registration. The BLM is providing T-Shirts, and Parks vouchers for volunteers. 🧤Gloves, trash bags, and all supplies provided.
