ANNUAL NORWOOD PRIDE CELEBRATION ON THE COMMON JUNE 6 AT 3PM
We invite everyone to join the town’s sixth annual Pride Celebration on the Norwood Town Common on Saturday, June 6 from 3:00-5:00 pm. We encourage you to support our local downtown businesses for dinner or bring your own food and whatever else you’ll need for comfort and weather. Enjoy our beautiful Central Street Greenspace. Everyone is invited to dress comfortably and colorfully for this fun, casual celebration with neighbors and family. This is a drop-in event and no registration is required. Our rain date is June 7, 3:00-5:00 pm.
Norwood’s Pride Celebration marks the beginning of Pride Month, a month dedicated to celebrating and honoring LGBTQ+ history and culture with parades and other events around the country. These annual events, gatherings, and parties grew out of the Gay Liberation Movement following the Stonewall riots in 1969. Modern Pride events seek to celebrate, center, and affirm the experiences, contributions, and identities of LGBTQ+ people the world over. Our theme this year is Cosmic Kindness, inspired by the adventure and bravery of space exploration. We all deserve to explore our space in the Universe.
Spearheaded by Progress Norwood, the annual Norwood Pride Celebration has partners from a rainbow of other departments and local organizations, including Impact Norwood, the Morrill Memorial Library, and the Norwood Police Department. Progress Norwood will provide craft activities, is planning a costume/dress up promenade and Norwood Pride lawn signs will be available for sale. This year we will be fundraising for Anemoni Peer Respite in Holyoke, MA. Anemoni is Wildflower Alliance’s second peer respite and the first trans and q***r peer respite in the world. Peer respite is a non-clinical crisis alternative for people who are struggling with emotional distress.
