Here is the front page article on Memorial Day in Norwood.

Memorial Day Service

Monday morning started with overcast skies with light rain prior to the Memorial Day Service held in the Village Park by the American Legion Post 68. The 21 gun salute at the bridge, where a wreath was laid into the Raquette River in honor of those lost at sea, could be heard down at the park. We knew the service and parade had begun.

Besides the usual display of flags along Norwood’s main streets, a special touch had been added this year: Banners honoring our local heroes of war. You may want to drive slowly, very slowly, so as to see the faces and read the names of those who have served and those who are now serving in the various branches of our Nation’s Armed Forces. The beauty of the flags with the banners is a wonderful sight and a reminder that freedom is not free.

After hearing the gun salute, the next sound that traveled down the street was that of the Firemen’s Brass Band playing with skill and dignity. They were followed by the NNCS Band marching in fast stride with their chosen tunes.

During the actual service, many times tears began to fall as we were reminded of our loved ones’ brave gift of life to this grateful nation. A huge smile came though when I noticed a young boy, maybe 2-3 years old standing under one of trees and marching in time while the Brass Firemen were playing the anthems of each military branch. His right arm was swinging and his march steps were as high as his little legs would take them. He slowed down during the Coast Guard and Space Force anthems but his interest was still intact.

When the beautiful rendition of “America the Beautiful” followed by the NNCS Band closing the service with our National Anthem, the tears of pride, joy, and sorrow fell once again. May God continue to shine His grace on us.

Young Entrepreneurs

There is a young man who has started an “Odd Jobs” business in the village. Have you seen his posters around? Owen Spies is willing to do those jobs that you don’t want to do, don’t have time to do, or maybe can’t do anymore.

Whatever the reason, call him and leave a message at 315- 353-9978 to get your windows washed, lawns raked, trash cans cleaned, dog walked, weeding, car cleaning, and more.

He comes with a smile, his wagon and tools, and sometimes a helper. A young person willing to work is someone to support. Give him a call soon.

We'll see some of you at the Memorial Day Parade.
