Seusstival

Seusstival Sunday, March 2, 2014 • Tracy Hall • Norwich, Vermont What is Seusstival? In addition, we will have Seuss-themed baked goods and an art space for kids.

Seusstival is a celebration of Dr. Seuss, a Dartmouth graduate who became America’s most beloved writer and illustrator of children’s books. Seusstival will be held on the weekend of Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the National Education Association’s “Read Across America” campaign. For four hours, one Dr. Seuss book after another will be read aloud by a number of talented and well-known Norwich readers.

There will be a break in the readings at 2:00 for a play based on The Lorax, to be performed by Norwich thespians age 4 to 8. These things are fun, and fun is good! Is Seusstival a fundraiser? All proceeds from Seusstival will benefit the Children’s Room of the Norwich Public Library, and Norwich’s two remaining one-room schoolhouses in public ownership, the Beaver Meadow Schoolhouse and the Root District Schoolhouse. How can a fundraiser be free? Even Dr. Seuss wouldn’t imagine that! Yes, Seusstival is free to the public. We hope to raise funds for the library and the schoolhouses through sponsorships of specific Dr. Seuss books by Norwich families and businesses. Also, we will auction and sell magnificent Dr. Seuss-themed baked goods, and we would certainly appreciate donations the day of the event. Will we succeed? Yes indeed, yes indeed! Ninety-eight and three-quarters percent guaranteed! Sounds fun! How can we become a sponsor and how else can we help? Sponsorship forms can be downloaded from the library’s website here:http://www.norwichlibrary.org/archive/seusstival-sponsorform.pdf

You can also request a form by sending an email to [email protected]. If you would like to help make Seusstival a success or have any questions, please send an email to [email protected]. Thanks for your interest!

Tomorrow is Theodor Geisel's birthday, today is Read Across America Day, and one year from now Seusstival will return to Norwich, Vermont. Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!

We are pleased to report that Seusstival raised $2,362.25, which will be shared by the children’s room of the Norwich Public Library, the Beaver Meadow Schoolhouse, and the Root District Schoolhouse. Thank you once again to the many participants, volunteers, sponsors and donors who helped make Seusstival a success, and thanks as well to those who supported Seusstival by being part of the wonderful audience!

03/23/2012

Over one-fourth of Seusstival’s revenue came from book sponsorships. The three books that earned the most in sponsorships were “Cat in the Hat” at $135, “Green Eggs & Ham” at $80, and “The Sneetches” at $65. Because of these sponsorships, all three stories will return to the next Seusstival.

If you have any photos or video from Seusstival that you would be willing to send our way, we would very much appreciate it! We’d like to put the best photos and videos on this page. Thanks in advance!

This is Sage, Mica and Ezra. These siblings held a bake sale on the lawn of the library one chilly afternoon during their February break to raise money for Seusstival. You kids rock. Thank you so much! Sage will be on stage tomorrow at Seusstival, as part of "The Lorax." Equally important, Mica and Ezra will be in the audience. Please come join them!

Seussophiles will enjoy the latest post from The Book Jam. This a blog run by Norwich's own Lisa and Lisa. One Lisa is a tireless Seusstival organizer, the other is a longtime advocate for Norwich's schoolhouses. How these two find time to read so many books is a mystery to us. No matter where in the world you live, if you like to read you'll like this blog. Check it out!
