Marking a Milestone: Sam Quigley to Retire as Director
———
After 12 years of inspiring leadership, Sam Quigley will retire as Director of the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in early summer 2026.

“While this moment is bittersweet, it is also one filled with gratitude for Sam’s leadership, his vision, and the indelible mark he leaves on this institution and its community,” said Board President Liza Sharp.

During his tenure, Quigley helped reimagine the Museum as a dynamic and welcoming cultural hub—expanding exhibitions, strengthening the collection, and deepening community connections. His impact includes initiatives such as the creation of the Near :: New gallery and the “Louis Comfort Tiffany in New London” exhibition, the reinstallation of the Museum’s anchor exhibition “American Perspectives,” and the launch of Lyman Allyn Park.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to lead this Museum,” Quigley shared. “I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together and grateful to the staff, trustees, and community who make it so special.”

As the Museum looks ahead, a national search is underway for its next Director. Stay tuned for opportunities to celebrate Sam’s remarkable legacy in the months ahead.
