Our Story
The Student Rescue Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our objective is to provide animal welfare education through service learning and adventure. We accomplish this goal by providing opportunities for high-school aged students to participate in dog rescue operations in a hands on way, providing them with the skills and understanding they need to make a difference in what can be an overwhelming global problem. The Student Rescue Project travels to with students to work with our rescue partners in Puerto Rico, as well as other locations, to learn about the plight of stray animals and the socioeconomic issues that lead to animal abandonment. Participants work with local school students to gain an understanding of their culture and exactly what is needed to help the stray animals that are so prevalent on the landscape. Students also have opportunities to participate in local operations including adoption fairs, library programs and receiving dogs at the cargo center at the airport in Boston when they fly up from Puerto Rico. It is our sincere hope that this program will empower young people to take action in the face of animal overpopulation wherever they might find themselves in the world.
